An Italian pilot threatened to crash his passenger jet if his wife left him, but was stopped minutes before taking off by police.

When his wife threatened to leave, the unnamed Italian pilot, in his 40s, sent a text saying he would kill himself along with the 200 passengers on his Rome-Japan flight, The Timesreported. However, the man's wife alerted officers at Fiumicino airport, who were able to replace the pilot without the passengers' knowledge.

The incident occured in January last year - two months before German pilot Andreas Lubitz deliberately crashed Germanwings A320 into the Alps - and was kept secret until now.

And the peanut gallery gets going:

"I dont know it happens or not, but I want to suggest that before any Flight, Pilots especially and other Plane staff should be examined by Phycatirst. As the World is getting modern in technologies, health problems, tensions and mental problems are also getting more advanced and affecting most of us. So more precautions should be taken before Handing Over Important / Critical Jobs to someone."

Will I still have time to grab some food during this quick turn after they get done making sure I'm not crazy?

Don't you have to be a little crazy to work for these wages?

Never understood someone being so mad at another person they would be willing to kill THEMSELVES. Not advocating anything here but that sure seems counter-productive!!

Guys don't worry. These evals if mandated will take all of 15-20 mins. I see it everyday. They ask you the same questions. The like of: "How are you feeling? Are you hearing voices, are you seeing things? Can you contract for safety. Do you feel like hurting yourself? Do you feel like hurting others? Are you sleeping? How're the meds working, or not?

That is a modern day "drive by" psych eval. Psychiatrist are too busy, they only access and prescribe. They don't do psychotherapy. That's a psychologist or Social Workers job.
