Certificated Air Carrier: An air carrier holding a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to conduct scheduled services interstate. These carriers may also conduct nonscheduled or charter operations. Certificated air carriers operate large aircraft (30 seats or more or a maximum load of 7,500 pounds or more) in accordance with FAR Part 121. Domestic carriers are restricted to operations in the US. Flag carriers operate both domestic and international operations.
Supplemental Air Carrier: An air carrier authorized to perform passenger and cargo charter services
Flag carrier : An FAR 121 carrier who provides service outside the U.S. with a seating capacity of more than 30 passengers.
Domestic carrier : An FAR 121 carrier with service within the U.S. using aircraft with a seating capacity of more than 30 passengers
Supplemental carrier : A FAR 121 operator who performs non-sched passenger service (charter) and/or scheduled or non-sched cargo operations with passengers greater than 30 or more than 7500lbs of cargo.
