Is Multi Engine Dual worth anything?

Hey guys,

I am going to be doing my multi engine and commercial rating together, doing most of it on the multi engine and then some on the single as well. Going to get my multi engine commercial and single engine commercial on the same day. My main question is that are the 35 hours of multi engine time or so that I log as dual useful at all when it comes to meeting the magic 100 hr ME requirement that a lot of airlines like? Or do the airlines only look at ME PIC time with that 100 hours?

Thanks a lot.

Im not entirely 100 percent on it, but my understanding has always been that it counts just as much as multi-engine PIC. You are flying a multi-engine aircraft right? Logging time in a multi-engine aircraft? That's the way another instructor explained it to me. Now if they are specifically looking for multi-engine PIC, thats a different story.

When I applied for my airline job, they made no distinction between ME PIC and ME Dual. All of the forms had just one blank for ME time, if that makes sense.

Short answer: Yes it counts towards the 100.

Especially considering insurance requirements for most schools won't let you take a Mutli up solo without a whole bunch of certain requirements being met.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I saw some posts a while ago about pic time and airlineapps.com. From what I recall, all dual time is not considered pic time. That is why Eagle requires at least 250 pic. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

It all depends on what the airline sets as requirements. Some airlines just day 250TT adn 50ME and they don't specifiy a PIC requimrent. Eagle does say that they want a 100 ME PIC and 250 is preferred. It still counts toward a total ME time requirement unless specified that it must be PIC.

Well, if it is dual then it is not PIC time unless you are already rated. Is that what you meant?

I'm confused. As an MEI instructing you are acting PIC. At least, MEI-ing was my hope of getting that 100h.

Read the second post in link carefully. "IMPORTANT: The system will automatically include your instructor time in the total PIC calculation. " My understanding is that dual given counts but dual received does not.

Really? Dual received doesn't count, even thought you are rated in the aircraft and the sole manipulator of the controls?

Just to clarify I am talking about multi engine dual RECEIVED time, not dual given time. Thanks for the responses so far.

Get your ME addon to your Private, then log the ME time as PIC while you are doing your Commercial training....

Your'e fine. I have a bunch of friends in your boat going to the regional airlines currently with no problem. Just my opinion but that training/dual received are some great hours. Doing the maneuvers, single engine approaches all single pilot is great for your confidence and skills. An hour of that stuff is worth four hours of cruise flight.

Airline apps excludes the "sole manipulator of the controls" clause. The theory is that when an instructor is on board he is the true one and only PIC onboard.

It seems like certain people have different viewpoints as to whether or not it would count towards airline mins or not. I guess it just depends on the airline then.

Again, www.airlineapps.com filters out "sole manipulator" time from your PIC time. Getting back to the OP's question though, Multi time is Multi time and the regionals won't care if it is PIC or not.
