Intro + 4 year flight programs suggestions

Hi,

since i'm new to JC I wanted to introduce myself. I’m Sterling Wiggins, currently living in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I'm 17 in my senior year of high school with hopes to be a pilot. So far the only PIC time I’ve logged was "playing pilot" as Doug would say /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif (saw the JC store) in Microsoft Flight Simulator. So far I have applied to Embry-Riddle, and if anyone has any recommendations of any other 4 year programs I’d appreciate it in a reply or a PM, since this isn’t the appropriate forum, not to sure how strict the JC admins are on that. Again, great to be here, everyone seems like a nice community, unless you all are hiding something hmmm, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif just kidding .

Best Regards
Sterling Wiggins

Edited by Iain - As a member of the 'Goon Squad' - I too am unsure if this should be here because you ask about 4 year programs, or our Anouncements section, as it is a intro. I changed the title, to represent the post better, and with that decided it is fine here. We are not hard asses here, more like janitors - we tidy up where needed.

Re: Intro

Hey, hows it going.

I go to the university of north dakota, majoring in aviation management. Thats another good flight school to look at if you're not all set to go to embry riddle. I've only been here for a month, but I like what I see so far. Heres two links if you want to snoop around a little. This first one is the college website, the second is a link to the aviation dept. website.

Re: Intro

Check out Purdue as well..

I'd look at the JC Forums and get a general sense of what JC members think of each school.

However, keep in mind that a lot of the posts will be fairly biased, and that you're probably best off developing your own opinions based on your impressions of the school itself, as well as talking with those who go to each school.

Here's a link to Purdue's Aviation Technology website. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Good luck!

If you insist on a degree in aviation, I'd recommend Metro State in Denver. Small aviation program within a large university. Inexpensive and more "real world" flight training cause they let you train at local flight schools. Internships with United cause the UA training center is in Denver.

But...at the same time...I'd highly recommend a non-aviation degree in a subject area you enjoy.

i second the suggestion to look in to metro state. my girlfriend goes there and she has more experience with weather, diversions, and real-world flying than i do, despite me having 3 times the hours that she does. there was an article on MSCD in last month's plane & pilot magazine. it's a great, inexpensive school and you don't have to live in grand forks or prescott /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here is a page with a few schools that have aviation programs. Don't forget to look at the schools that you may never have heard about!!!!!

If you are looking to stay local in that area the college formerly known as Beaver College - I can't remember it's new name - might be something to look into. They may also have in state resident tuition discounts.
