Interviewing

What are airlines looking at when they interview. Sceniro based questions will get basically the same answer from everyone. Are they looking for personality or fit in with the team or something else

Every airline is a bit different in what they look for in a candidate, but universally they want a dispatcher that is knowledgeable in the basic mechanics and regulations of the job, is capable of independent decision making withing the confines of those regulations and someone who is reliable. Beyond that, the gouge at individual airlines very widely.

The last two companies I have been at were more personal senarios (tell me about a time you had a conflict) trying to see how you would fit with the team. They figured you had the knowledge by having the license and that you will get all the info in ground school if you didn't.

I would say 99% of interviews in the world at least look for these. My interview had scenarios, metars/TAFS, questions about my future plans, what I knew about the airline, questions on regs, etc. Personal scenario questions like "how would you describe a great workplace" and "tell me about your worst day at work" were definitely asked and the interview panel took lots of notes on the answers to those questions. Just be yourself, relax, and show them what you have to offer. Keep in mind that, in a way, you are interviewing them just as they are you. Ask questions!

With scenario based questions there does not seem to be many answers. Do airlines prefer the logical answer or do they want you to think outside the box

would you rather we just do the interview for you? lol good lord... just prepare yourself to the best of your ability. Go in confident and sell yourself. That's really all you can do. The rest is up to them.

I am not looking on advice how to interview. I Think PLJenkins had the answer I was looking for

I would dispute the notion that all airlines are looking for the same thing. I think airlines are looking for someone who can justify the decisions they make. If you can't articulate why you made such-and-such decision, in the interview or on the job, you're going to have a rough time of it.

That's what I drew from class. Keep it safe. Keep it legal. Flight plan it the way you are going to do it within the FAR'S and company guidelines, but be ready to justify and stand by your decisions.

Protect your license.
