internships

Hey Doug and other pilots,

I am hoping to get an internship with Midwest airlines this summer. Since they have no formal requirements about being a junior or senior, or having a commercial rating, it seems like I have a shot of getting an internship with them. I know Midwest connect mins are 700TT, so will they lower them even more if I'm an intern. Who should I talk to in the company, Doug? What would you say about an internship with Midwest or any regional airline? I really hope to get it because Midwest was the first airline I ever flew that got me involved in aviation. This has been my dream for years, and to get a taste of the profession would probably be more rewarding than school.

I did an internship with SkyWest last year. It was an awesome opportunity to see what goes on at an airline. I got to work with a bunch of different people and learn a few different jobs. Being an intern got me an interview when I met the mins (SKW doesn't lower them for interns) and probably helped me get hired.

I know some people at Midwest, I will send them an email if they have an intern program & what the requirements are..

What are the typical requirements for someone to do an internship with a Regional airline? Just wondering was some of the general requirements are for someone since obviously they can not just allow anyone to do that? Any info would be great!

Well, I already no midwest airlines has no requirements for flight operations. they accept you based on you resume and spaces available. Like other small airlines or regionals, there are no formal requirements. Just call them and let them know you really want the internship and keep in contact with them even after you submit your resume. I would not do internships for major airline because most are bankrupt (major factor for career down the road) and they will most likely forget about you. Plus, they have higher requirements for interns and pilots. Your best bet would be to call companies you would like to work for and express your interest in an internship with them.

P.S. I'm still waiting from a response from Doug
Also, if anybody knows any pilots at Midwest Airlines or Midwest Connect, please let me know. I would be interested in talking to them

Being that Midwest doesn't have mins for the internship, would it be better to wait until you get somewhat close to the mins? I'm working on my COMM lic. I have about 125 TT 45 ME, Not sure if you should wait until you put in more time. If you apply and you still have about 300 more hrs to meet the mins, not sure if they will 'forget' about you. Does anyone know how to get an intern with Express Jet?

Your right in a sense, but the earlier you intern the better you will understand the industry and company before you apply or get into the airline industry. Just because I will only have my private and instrument does not mean that i still can't observe and work with flight operations to understand the dynamics of the profession. About express jet. I know of someone who did an internship with them in Newark and he had a blast and hopes to do it again next summer. I would call the HR department and ask about their requirements. I know for a fact that they do interviews with intern applicants. Good luck in your pursuits.

I see the Midwest pilots quite frequently as they train on our MD88 simulator, if you send me your name & email address, I will see if I can get the MD88 instructors to email you.

Does anyone know what the mins are to apply for an internship with ExpressJet?

Chq?

Does anyone know anything about CHQ and if they have any kind of internship opportunities out there? Also how long does a typical internship last, or is there any sugguestion on how long one should look to do one? Just a few thoughts I had on that......

I'm sure CHQ has an internship program. Just remember to look for airlines that are under ch. 11 bankruptcy and also look for internships that would be close to home or family since most are unpaid. You could do an internship in the Fall, Spring, or Summer depending on the availability. Some companies might even extend your internship if they want you that much. In today's current situation with the airlines, internships are a way to solidify your future becuase meeting the min. hours is only a min requirement regardless if you have more than that amount. Your best bet would be to call the airline and express interest.
