Internet Optimiser

Does anyone know how to stop Internet Explorer from defaulting to this page every time I put in an incorrect domain name or a webpage doesn't come up?

It's also gotten so bad that it's hijacking my Yahoo! searches. Before Yahoo! has even had a chance to give me the results, this thing comes up so I can't use Yahoo! anymore.

I have been having the same damn problems. I can't stand it. I run ad aware every day and get like 20-25 objects to get rid of, but they keep coming back.

Like Purdue Pilot said, please help!

Perfect Nav, gator, and a few other nasty things are installed by programs like kazza (sp?), and other scripts your friends send you, or you might find on less reputable web sites. If you look in the add/remove programs list, a few of the "nicer" adwares enable you to uninstall them. Others must be manually hunted down and deleted.

I use Norton Anti-Virus 2004. It detects adware in addition to viruses, and deletes them.

I hope that helps!

Do you have either "Active Alert" or "Internet Optimizer" listed in "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel? If either is present try removing them.

Yeah, I know all that. I have been very meticulous about spyware programs. I have been using Kazaa Lite for about a year now and I have had no problems.

This IO pain in the arse program just made it's way onto my machine and it's beyond me how.

I've been screwing around in the registry and trying to delete the .exe file off my machine but apparently the .exe file is "still in use." I have to go in and remove, I have a good feeling about this, some .dll files. Anyone know which ones?

I did that and it didn't do a darn thing!

Run both AdAware and Spybot.. that usually gets rid of most everything.

Worse comes to worse, track down and manually delete the executable.

Is the default page "isearch"?

I just downloaded Bazooka, but it's not a removal tool. It took me to the same page I was using before to remove this hunk of junk.

I'm running AdAware now, hopefully that will get rid of it. I still can't remove the .exe file because it's still being used somewhere. What could be causing this?

It's Internet Optimizer.

I had a similar problem as yours except mine would always default to isearch. Try and search "google" for internet optimiser, and see if anyone has created a program to remove your bug.

I would, but I can't seem go to any search page. Instead of the results, the Internet Optimizer page comes up.

If you have a problem with a BHO (Browser helper object, the things that modify IE adding taskbars/etc).. Search for a tool called BHODemon. It doesn't catch everything, but it can usually deactivate some of those.

This should be illegal. It's just wrong to install something on someone's computer without them knowing.

It's like someone breaking into your car and installing an 8-Track player in place of your CD player because they thought you'd like it better.

Try hitting ctr alt del and going to the task manager and selcting the "processes" tab (if you are running win2k or XP. See if you can find the program running there (the .exe that you can't delete) and then select it and hit "end process". You should now be able to delete the file.
