I just spoke to my dad about the volcano - last time it erupted it lasted 2 years. He said that it is the first time in the history of Lufthansa they have not had a plane in the air. He also said that his business partner caught the last flight out of Paris - in order to get out of Paris the forwent cleaning the plane. Lastly Cunard Line has offered to help transport people home with additional trans Atlantic ships!

Very interesting at Dulles yesterday seeing all of the parked heavy aircraft from European carriers. Right now there are foreign crews all throughout the US just hanging out, and same with American crews over in Europe. This whole thing is a very strange scenario.

Euro birds chillin' at ORD yesterday.

\Lastly Cunard Line has offered to help transport people home with additional trans Atlantic ships!

Cunard only has two ships (Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria) with another on the way, wouldn't Carnival or Royal Caribbean be better suited? Not to mention that out of the three ships I just mentioned, only one (the QM2) is well suited for Atlantic travel, the other two are more cruise ships than ocean liners.

Max,

We can agree though Cunard is the way to go across the Atlantic! I certainly wouldn't want to go on the Fun Ship when I had the option to go across in style! :bandit:

I got stuck in Lyon, France for almost six days once.

Day 2 was fun: "Captain! Just got called by operations, no parts tomorrow! Another round on your tab, no? :)"

Day 3 was good, but grew a little tired of the FA drama ("First year in the airline business and your first irregular operation, ma'am? Oh, it's not? Why so glib... Oh, you have stuff to do.... ahhh... none of us do.")

Day 4 was pretty good because the weather improved and I discovered a lot of interesting pubs and sights. Also found an amazing restaurant.

Day 5, I was about ready to go a little, shall we say, "Lord of the Flies", but sitting around with cold, fresh beer in Vieux Lyon soothed my attitude.

Day 6, flew empty back to the US. No pax, doors open, station manager loaded up the plane with 5 choices of meal per crewmember and some local specialities and had a wonderful time. Discovered that an empty 757 with winglets, normal takeoff thrust, will hit 12,000 feet before you finish the phrase, "Gear upOLY CRAP (expletive) E-Ticket ride"

You can still catch United (Aer Lingus) to Madrid if you want to get to Europe.

Here is Dulles:
