Instrument Written Coming Up

Well, I'm about half-way through my Gleim book, and the CPC DVD's, and just yesterday I called Laser Grade and scheduled an Instrument written test for March 12th @ 12pm. So far, being half-way through my studies, I'm in the mid to upper 80's when I take the practice tests on the Sportys website. I hope to make it in the 90's when I take the actual written exam. It feels good to be making progress...:nana2:

Good Luck to you! I'm studying for my IR written as well but not as far ahead as you are yet. I'm currently reading the Jepp Instru/ Comm book and have the Gleim book as well which I am yet to look into. How long did it take you to get where you are at today with your IR written preparation. And the CPC DVDs that you mentioned, where could I get those at. Any other book or publication that you think one should read prior to taking the written, apart from the above? Any advise that you could share to help someone on the IR route? Thank you!

It didn't take me too long to get where I'm at. It just takes a lot of will power, because the gleim has 900 questions to study for a 60 question test. You just have to keep pushing through the material. I will usually review what I studied from the beginning of the book, and then pick up where I left off completing two more chapters, and then repeat the next time I open the book again. I find it great to keep with it because the longer you put it off, the longer you will spend having to re-learn the material.

I bought the CPC DVD's through my flight school. I'm sure you can get something similiar from sporty's, etc. The videos are good, and very informative.

I really don't have any other recs for additional books to study. All I have been using is the Gleim and the DVD's. I've heard the instrument/comm book is good. Keep reading that, and really read the Gleim and study it as well. When you have questions, make sure you note them, and ask your instructor.

Good luck with everything, and if you need any help with some material, let me know. I as well as lots of others here can lend some advice.

:)

Good luck on it! I have my IR written in about 1/2 a month. I'm going to take it around mid March. Sporty's Practice written is pretty good. For my Private Pilot written all I used was the practice tests on Sporty's website and they were pretty good. I am probaly going to do the same for IR, it's free so I can save some money. :D

Good luck on the written. I am also using the CPC Instrument CD-ROMS. I am also using the King CD-Roms my buddy let me borrow, which are really good but you have to do them in segments or you will fall asleep watching them. One site I strongly recommend for written prep is mypilottests.com.
