hey all~~ hope you are all doing well.

if you don't mind my telling you, i decided to get a second job working the night shift for korean airlines at LAX 7:45pm to 12:45am to make some extra bucs for my flight training. i work a total of 13 hours a day, but as long as i have the money to fly, i am not tired!!

anyways, I was just wondering...i am training for my instrument rating now on C152...how does it work when i go for multiengine rating, do i have to get instrument rated for the multi-engine as well? i am a bit confused.

thanks in advance.

You will just get an add on for the multi. In short fly a precision and a non-precision approach with one engine (simulated) inop.

If you have your IFR before you get your multi, you'll have to demonstrate IFR proficiency during your multi ride. It's not like a whole other checkride but you'll have to do some instrument flying. Check out the multi PTS to be exact.

How do you like IFR training in a 152? What do you pay?

When I did my multi add on... I only had to shoot one approach. It did have to be single engine... but I only did 1 GPS and that covered the requirement.

Both are right. I got my IR just before I got my PPAMEL and had to do two approaches on the Multi-engine checkride.

They may have changed the rules around then. When I took my checkride a precision and a non-precision were required (PTS). I understand a new Instrument PTS is coming out October 2004 with new requirements so depending on when your ride is you might want to make sure you have the right information.

I pay 59.95/hour for the plane and 35/hour for my instructor.

I enjoy IFR training so far in a 152...my instructor tells me that we might have some problems with our climb performance when we do IFR x-countries...but i guess that is what holding patterns are for!!

so, wait, is it possible to do IFR training in a Multi? i hear that multi hours are darn important when it comes to getting hired.

That's how I did mine. I satisfied the requirements of SE instrument, then moved into the multi for another 30 or so hours to finish up my rating. My actual FAA IA ride was in a multi. Came out with a good amount of multi in the logbook, which is nice.

if you don't mind telling me, what would be considered as "satisfying the requirements of SE instrument?"

This was conducted under Part 141 with a syllabus and all, so I'm not sure how this would take place under Part 61 (if that's what you're doing). But basically, I did BAI stuff, holds, arcs, and tracking/intercepting in a C172, then moved into a Seminole for approaches and IFR XCs.
