To act as PIC under IFR, you must accomplish : Within the preceding 6 calendar months preceding the month of the flight in an airplane or sim/FTD:
- 6 Approaches
- Hold
-Intercepting and tracking

My question is: Can you include the approaches done in the current month you are in? Or is it strictly the preceding 6 months before?

Yes, the current month counts. In reality, you get 6 months and 29 days (or 30 days, depending on the month) to maintain currency.

Otherwise, the approaches, holding and tracking courses you do this month would only make you current at the start of the next month...that's not very logical.
