Instructing during college

Has anyone ever instructed part time during college? I ask because will be getting my commercial next month and still have 2 years left of college. I was planning on trying to find a banner or glider tow gig, but they are kinda far from where I live. A guy that I know is starting up a flight school (has 2 172's right now). His CFI's instruct as much or as little as they want, and although I haven't asked him yet, I'm pretty sure he would hook me up.
so what do you think, is it possible to handle a couple of students and a couple of college classes at the same time?

Sure it is, mrivc211 did that along with a number of other people. It's just like working any other job during school, except as a cfi you'll just make a lot less

If you go to a school that has an aviation program, I assure you that most of the CFIs are students. If you can find the time to train while you're in school, you can probably find the time to instruct!! Your only problem will be explaining to a student that you can't fly on M-W-F from 2-5, and T-Th from 8-11....

I'm in the same boat. I'll be a CFI with a year left of school. I've talked to the folks across the street at one of the FBOs about a part-time instructing job, and they don't mind at all. A few of their instructors are part-timers.

I'm taking a few credits this summer to make room for that possibility in the next two semesters. I'll only be taking 13 credits, leaving me with a big gap during the morning/afternoon for a job. I hope it won't be too hard.

"Has anyone ever instructed part time during college?"

Last guy I knew that did that became a check airman at Mesa and then got hired at Delta....then he got furloughed. Building time instructing while in school is a great idea. It was my plan but never quite worked out when I decided to go to ERAU after already having most of my ratings.

Yeah I taught my last year of school at Riddle. It was great. If I didn't have the most hours in my graduating class that I'd been paid for (about 400 paid hours at that point) then I don't know who took that honor.

Just make sure you make school a priority yadda yadda...no just kidding skip classes and fly fly fly!

Just make sure you graduate.

I think that's a great idea!

I'm hardly in the same position, as you are. I was almost 40 when I learned to fly, but now I juggle a full time non-aviation career with part time instruction.

But in a way, what we are doing is pretty similar. Having a full time commitment, where a job or school, means that a substantial amount of your time is spoken for. As it turns out, most of my students are in the same boat, so it works out. You may find the same thing is true in your situation.

Yesterday I logged my frist dual given, and i am now a freshman at this university. After not being hired at a prominent florida flight school, i saw it as a way to begin working ony my degree, working out great now, Im only 20, their giving me 30 credits for prior experience and im getting hours. If all goes as planned ill get my degree and have flight time with it!
