Inexpensive digital air band receivers on eBay

I have one of those. Think I got it for $29 new from some online store.

It works. Mine lives in my Jeep.

If you know what intermod is, oh my god. This thing picks up a nearby mexican polka sounding music station when I'm parked at RHV, trying to listen to ATIS, while they are changing the message and there is no signal coming through.

Also, there is no squelch. So for ATIS/ASOS/AWOS this thing is great. But it drops to a faint background static instead of silent between transmissions. I randomly listen to a busy ATC freq or a local tower or CTAF and it picks it up fine.

The 'problem' of not locking onto the tuned signal can be kinda cool though. If you have local fields on say, 122.8, 122.9, and a few guys chatting on air to air, you can hear them all. If at the same time, you get the stronger signal. So for scanner type use, it is pretty cool actually. I've had it for a couple years, still on the first set of batteries.

The AM/FM radio side works good too.

There's my, 1min, sorta-mini-review.

Made by STEC. MR-318 is the model. I got mine here:

so I think the $20 ebay price is pretty good.

Couldn't find anything on the radio, and think I've tossed the box already, but think it was a Made in China product.

Oh, and looked at it, it has a 3vold DC input. So if you wanna leave this sitting around your home/office plugged in all the time, you wouldn't even need a set of AAs to run it (again, mine have lasted for a long time, so not a major concern).
