Imminent Strike at G4

No, not an April Fools joke.

As of 0700Z tomorrow, April 2nd, G4 pilots will be on strike.

Things have devolved here a lot, this is a strike for the status quo. We have not yet been released by the NMB, but we won a couple of a injunction hearings last year that were supposed to force the company to follow our PWA (pilot work agreement). The company has refused to follow them after we won the injunction last July, and they still refused after the injunction was upheld in January. So it has come to this.

There will be picketing in numerous G4 bases. Please contact our Union, the Teamsters 1224 for more information though. This is because some bases like Punta Gorda, are only allowing 5 people to hold signs at the terminal at one time.

You may also see a lot of our commuters at various airports around the country trying to get home. Any well wishings are appreciated, as you can imagine we're excited, but pretty stressed.

For most of us (including myself) this is un-chartered territory.

So you expect to be released by the NMB today? Or are you just holding up signs at the airport?

I don't understand. Are you saying that a judge gave you a right to strike outside of an NMB release? Sorry if I'm skeptical, but it's highly irregular, and we are talking about the IBT here.

It's a status quo strike since the judge ordered a return to status quo and thus far the company has refused. There were a few (2) in the 50s on railroads that struck for status quo. It's never been done for an airline before.

Yeah, sorry, but I agree with the airline's lawyers on this one. You're probably going to get ordered back to work, and then the NMB will never take you seriously again. More IBT antics. I wish you guys the best, but this is not how to do it.

I believe that they have to use the avenue available to them and that's what the status quo strike is. I will support them in either avenue they chose.

The phrase "status quo strike" appears nowhere in the RLA, nor does it appear anywhere in the American Bar Association's thousand page textbook on the RLA and the applicable case law. It appears to be something that the IBT has dreamed up. I'm betting that the court will issue an injunction before tomorrow.

Heck yeah. The RLA handcuffs labor. Any legal excuse to circumvent it should be taken.

Oh boy. Great way to get an injunction slapped on you, your union fined into oblivion, and get stuck in endless negotiations because the NMB is punishing you.

Dude, dude... just come back. Your career co-pilot seat is still waiting for you. In Oakland!

The way the union termed it is "a strike to restore the status quo."

A judge upheld our injunction against the company's appeal to restore the "status quo," back in January (we initially won our case last July I think). The company's bidding system was ruled as a major violation of our contract per the courts in Las Vegas. This ruling also included them messing with our paternity leave and our short term disability.

The company has literally done nothing to address these violations, and they've had more than ample time.

I'm not a lawyer so I apologize for my imperfect legal speak, but that's the justification per the IBT.

There is a meeting with the judge as I type this, (or so I heard) so we'll see.

The best you can hope for withy his strike is a return the contract rules, it's not a strike to negotiate new rules/wages/etc
