I'm suddenly having visions of Otto Pilot from Airplane!

Saw that wiry dude a couple months ago. Maybe there's something about this project I'm missing or don't understand, but my basic reaction is WTF?

Why would you go to all the expense and hassle of creating some heavy, complicated, anthropomorphized robot autopilot to sit in a seat in a cockpit??

If you want automated/autonomous aircraft, build automated aircraft. Save the weight and flight deck space and sell the nose window seats to 1st class +++ Pax.)

If you want Disney simulacrums, build this thang!

Had to take a delay the other day my FO got the blue screen death...

Will have to send all of the CAs to training so they can unlearn "booting your FO" and learn "rebooting your FO"!

Temporary installation = no STC required
Besides even though there is an impending part 23 certification rewrite no one said nuthin about the 25

Because the company testing this probably doesn't make airplanes - they make robots. And if you're a cargo carrier looking to cut your labor costs for a flight in half, this probably seems better than buying a new airplane.

The point is not to replace the pilot. The point is to advance the science of robotics, and to demonstrate what they have been able to do so far.
