I\'m in the Army Now

The song keeps going through my head ... You're in the Army Now ...
I left home on Sunday at 09:30 ... it ripped my heart out to say goodbye to my wife and kids, especially my 5 yr. old who only understands that I am going away untill the winter snow comes and is gone and the spring flowers start to bloom. The last time I saw them they were all standing at the top of the FBO steps crying and my little buddy was holding out her hand as if to call me back. My 12 yr. old son, truly in my image, held back until that very moment. My 10 yr. old wouldn't leave my side untill the very last moment. My wife truly has the more difficult role for the next 7 months as she has to make the daily decisions and manage the home and kids. If you pray ... pray for strength and guidance for her.
I will write more later, there is a time limit on computer usage and there are a few other folks here waiting for thier turn.

Re: I\'m in the Army Now

Good luck to you. I remember the walk up the brow with the family standing on the pier. It sucks!!! You are in my thoughts!

Re: I\'m in the Army Now

Thank to everyone
Thanks Doug, right now I think I'm set, of course I still don't know which end is up. I honestly don't know how Navy / Marines do this for a career, leaving home for long periods of time sucks!!! And I'm sure no one ever gets use to it.
Our flight, an ATA L-1011, took us from TX took us to IND for refuel and crew swap then on to Gander for more fuel. We then flew to Budapest for yet more fuel and another crew change before flying into Kuwait.
I start flying missions on Wed, and even though I can't tell you where for OPSEC ( Operational Security ) reasons, I can tell you that my first mission starts earning me my combat flight pay.
I have alot of reading to do to get ready and as time goes on I should have more time to post and keep everyone up to speed.

And 650CPT, do not, and I repeat, DO NOT hesitate to send us a list of things you need while you're 'in theater' over there.

We've even been recently briefed on the many uses of "Pringles Cans" so that option is available as well.

Re: I\'m in the Army Now

I'm so glad I got my deployments done before I got married and had my son. I know I couldn't bear to miss all the little things that happen while they grow up. Though I could do without the terrible two's! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Keep you butt safe and come home in one piece.
