I don't think that would put your medical in danger, unless you were charged with a DUI or operating an airplane while drunk. I'm not 100% sure, but I always thought that there had to be some kind of legal action involved in order to jeopardize your medical, such as a DUI or something along those lines.

Re: Im Affraid i might get my medical denied!!!

You will be asked to declare any and all visits to medical professionals within the past few years (the exact number of years escapes me). You will also be asked about the reason for the visit. One of the 14 disqualifying conditions for a medical certificate is "Substance dependence, abuse or misuse (including alcohol and a wide variety of drugs and controlled substances) within the previous 2 years." Depending on your AME's interpretation of this, he/she may or may not issue you your medical. I'm not an AME myself, so I could be wrong on this analysis but that's my understanding of it.

Also...don't get any bright ideas about "Oh, I'll just not write down that visit to the hospital." Carries up to a 5 year penalty in federal prison, $250,000 fine, and revocation of all flight certificates and ratings you hold.

How would they know you went to the hospital. I know honesty is the best policy but unless you told them, How?:yeahthat:

Re: Im Affraid i might get my medical denied!!!

Also in the application for a medical certificate, isn't there a question about ever losing conciousness (sic). I not sure it applies to being passed out from alcohol, but I bet in the eyes of the FAA it does.

We must assume that pilots are honest. If I am on a flight plan at 12000 feet and you report you are at 10000 feet, we must assume we are all reporting correctly, otherwise the system fails. The same must be said of your medical application. The reason for the medical exam is safety. As a consequence for lying (the government calls it falsification), the government does have the ability to offer you a nice, relaxing vacation at Club Fed for up to 5 years, can take $250,000 out of your pocket and can revoke all of your medical and pilot certificates.

How do they find out? A disgruntled wife or girlfriend, or an unhappy co-worker - just like the IRS finds out.:laff: They also may gain access to medical records if there is an accident (they can have subpoena powers in that case) and find it after the fact - they then can offer you the options listed above for your lack of honesty.

As the holder of a commercial license for 35 years, I prefer not to have dishonest people operating in the system - it creates a potential danger for me.

Aviation and drinking kind of go hand and hand. I doubt there are many professional pilots that haven't, at one point in their career, passed out themselves or had a friend/co-worker pass out while drinking too much. My guess is hardly any report it. It's kinda sad actually.

You mean there actually is not an office of dedicated individuals scrutinizing the records of every pilot in the skies? Gee, I thought that is what these upcoming user fees were going to pay for! :sarcasm:

Re: Im Affraid i might get my medical denied!!!

If you cannot hold yourself to the standards the FAA has set forth, then don't be a pilot! I remember one guy posted a thread that said "so if i go to a party and get stoned i wont get fired for failing a drug test?". I mean, come on people!

Care to back up this theory? I haven't noticed any drinking tendencies by pilots.

And to add to this.....if you have to ask "I did X, will that affect my ability to get a medical?"

The answer should be obvious, 99.5% of the time beforehand.

Well it is a little bit too much to expect a pilot to recognize a bad idea when they see one, especially when they are responsible for the lives of hundreds every work day...
