I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

I had an 0430 showtime in Fresno for my trip tomorrow, so I was going to drive down tonight and stay in a hotel, so I wouldn't have to leave my house at 0130 for work in the morning. I got this bright idea a couple days ago to get a boat, so I stopped off at the local dealer on the way to fresno to check out the model i'm interested in (2006 Bayliner 175). Anyways, I'm in the boat and notice that the carpet inside is wet, i figure they either just did a test ride or washed it. I go to get out of the boat and when I step onto the concrete floor, I slip, fall flat on my a$$ and hear my ankle pop. I'm no med student, but I know that can't be good. It swelled up pretty good almost immediatly. I had my gf pick me up and take me to get it x-rayed. It's not broken, but I won't be able to walk on it for a couple weeks. So, that will be a couple weeks with no pay. I've got about 8 hours of user time, which is almost worthless at first year FO pay. I had the local tomorrow followed by an air force mission on monday that is supposed to be a week.
The moral of the story, first year F.O's cant afford to buy a boat, so don't bother looking.

Well, it could have been worse. For a second when the carpet was wet I thought you'd step out to find that the boat was, in fact, sinking.

Re: I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

Sorry to hear about your ankle, but maybe it's just a sign, I think someone is trying to tell you to buy a sailboat!

Re: I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

Dude that sucks. I feel your pain, I really do.

So allow me, a person with very bad ankles, to offer some advice.

Do not push it with that ankle. I originally injured myself in the same manner, but didn't listen to my doctor, and so I injured it again, and again, and again.

So much so that now I have no connective tissue and have to have surgery, which will put me out of commission for 12 weeks, and I may lose some function in the tendons in my leg (that's where they get the material to repair your ankle).

So take it easy, even after your doctor takes you off your crutches I would wear an ankle brace for a couple months. That tissue takes a minimum of 6 weeks to heal, but that's what's called clinical healing. It will take a couple of months before you have fully healed.

Trust me. Protect your medical and stay off that ankle.

Later and sorry about your luck.

Do you have any short term disability insurnace? This could help some in your "down" time.

Was that for viper or me?

(sorry, couldn't resist)

Re: I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

No, I don't have short term disability. This is clearly a negligence issue on the boat dealer's part, so I'm not too concerned about my loss of income. I know I will get it back, it's just a matter of how long that will take. I've got some money in the bank that I'll be able to survive on. I don't want to seem like i'm milking the boat dealer, but on the other hand if I push it and injure it again it would be on me, not them. I'm gonna have to be able to comfortably walk on it before i can go back to work. It's a pretty decent walk from the parking lot to the crew room. I'm really bummed that I'm missing the air force mission i was going to be on today. It was going to hawaii, and I haven't been there for a while.

Re: I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

Today the Doc said it is a severe sprain and I will be out of work about 6 weeks! This SUCKS!!!

Re: I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

Yesterday the Doc called and wanted me to go in again for more x-rays. Now, it's BROKEN!!

I'm pretty sure I'll get the boat, but not this summer.

Thanks, Too bad he's in TN.
A co-worker does a little instruction on the side. He has a student with a SR-22 that is an accident injury attorney. I contacted him a couple days ago and will hear back from him on monday.

Re: I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

That blows!
lets talk boats are you sure you wouldn't want something longer at least an 18ft is this going to be an Outboard or an I\O fishing, skiing? or both?

Re: I\'m a stupid KLUTZ

This one was 17'6" I/O, 135hp for $9995. The next step up is 18'2", I/O, 135 and $14,000. Add delivery, dealer prep and a couple extras and add about $2K to each of those. I wanted to boat mainly for taking the gf and the kids to the lake, pull them around in an intertube or kneeboard. I might try to learn to wakeboard, do a little waterskiing. I would do a little fishing also. I thought this was a very economical boat that would also meet my needs. Something over 18' would be nice, but right now I couldn't justify the extra price.
