IFR view limiting glasses/hoods

Low&Slow

Ancora imparo
I'm going to be in the market for training glasses/hoods in a few months and am looking for opinions and feedback. I will be working on my CFII after I complete my CFI. I also wear corrective lenses.
I was looking at Viban and Jepp Shades, but neither look like they would work well with glasses. I could be wrong though, I've never seen them up close or tried them.
Any recommendations on these or something else?

Do you need to incorporate the corrective lenses into your VLD? In that case, a hood is probably your best bet. I've surprisingly had several students choose the hood because it is more comfortable to wear for a longer period of time. As for me, I highly recommend BlockAlls.

I wear glasses and used the cone of shame comfortably (sort of) through my instrument and commercial ratings.

Yeah, I used the hood when I got my instrument rating 26 years ago too, that's why I'm hoping there's a better solution. That thing sucked.
Does anybody make a prescription version of a Viban/Jepp Shades/Blockalls type of view limiting device?
I don't/won't wear contacts and I am not having my eyes cut and/or burned with a laser. Prescription or nothing.
Hmm...I wonder if I took a pair of them into an optician, if he/she could carve a prescription into it?

Would you accept some type of shape that popped over your regular glasses?

I want to test out my 3D printing skilz, but I haven't really had a good project...

That sounds like an interesting idea. Maybe I can try to fabricate one out of sheet metal and/or kydex.

You can get the Vibans without the nose piece and rest them on the hinges of the glasses. That is what I did.

Consider the Best IFR Hood, http://thebesthood.com/

It looks like a bit of a joke - $8 including shipping - but it really does work. And definitely over glasses.

Absolutely the best hood. Especially if OP plans on becoming a CFI/CFII... I just carried it in my kneeboard behind my chart and could easily pull it out and give it to the student. Never have been a fan of foggles- found too many "cheaters."

Found this hood:

Looks similar to "the best hood", but with some improvements. Should probably get a ballcap without the "button" on top, or take it off though. I can see it digging into your scalp after you put the headset on.

I could see Kydex working well. It'd be a quick kill if you have access to a vacuum former.
I do. Heat blankets and heat lamps too.
I'm an airframe mechanic and we use vacuum and heat for composite repairs and fabrication (fiberglass, Kevlar, carbon fiber, etc).

You could be better than everyone else in the IFR hood game: Kydex to make a mold for a carbon fiber hood.

I don't wear glasses for flying (vision is technically still 20/20). I have the Jepp foggles, I like them because I can flip them up and the band fits easily under my headsets. I tried them with my computer glasses and they fit well by putting them on, flipping them up, and putting the glasses on over top of them and flipping them down. That being said, I am not sure how it would work out with a headset on. Also my frames are pretty small, and I don't think larger frames would fit under them. Here is a link to my frames : http://www.frameboutique.com/displa...zmap=ST97081&gclid=COm2-ezFwc0CFQ1ahgodjbUJ4Q
