Just wanted to tell you guys I have my IFR checkride scheduled for next Wednesday at 10 AM. It has been re-scheduled 3 times, so I hope this one is the ONE

At least not too often....

Seriously, good luck. One of the best feelings was having the DE tell me I passed that checkride.

Took my end of course...everything went great!

Did a few approaches: single engine ILS, NDB, partial panel ILS, VOR partial panel, and then a couple holds and basic air work. My NDB was kind of off because we had some nice stiff winds so of course ATC had to take me through the approach course which sort of ended up with me homing towards the station and then I got established after passing the FAF. Anyway my end of course oral is next Tuesday and then my ride is Wednesday...almost there!

Yay partial panel ILS. My CFI pulled that on me, and I about killed him. The thing is so darn sensitive, it's a tough one. If you can do that, a non-precision is a piece of cake. Then again, he had me do the WHOLE flight partial panel. Take-off, foggles, paper over the DG and AI. Did two holds, a DME arc, a VOR approach and an ILS, all partial panel. After doing that flight, when the DE covered my instruments, I actually laughed.

Partial panel ILS? The examiner is not allowed to do that on the checkride right? Did the PTS change? Before it said only the non precision approach could be partial panel.

I GOT IT!

Well I am happy to say I am an instrument rated pilot! My examiner was a really cool guy who made the whole 5 or so hours actually not too stressful. He was an ex-Hawker pilot who lost his medical because of heart problems and then got it back a few years ago..LOTS of experience and great stories to tell.
The oral went really well....2.5 hours going over basic systems (special emphasis on the electrical and pitot-static system), comm failures, weather charts, chart and plate reading, rights and limitations. airspace classifications, and "what-if..." style questions.
I grabbed some lunch in between my flight and oral, and that's when the winds started to pick up. At FPR (my home airport) it was 290 @19G25...luckily more or less down the runway. We took off and went over to Titusville to shoot their ILS 36 approach since FPR's ILS is on a 094 heading. We did a full panel and localizer only appracoh to a full stop down there. On the way we did partial panel compass turns, intercepting and tracking. It was REAAAAAAAALY bumpy and ATC advises of an Airmet Tango in effect. Finally, we went down to VRB and did a single engine NDB approach, did some unusual attitudes and holding and went back to FPR. I have never been so relieved to land back at Fort Pierce

Anyway after a bit of a hard landing, my examiner said I passed. I guess I am a "real" pilot now....Thanx for all your comments guys!
