Well, here goes nothing. I'm officially enrolled in the Jun 21 IFOD class, and will take my practical "the weekend of Jul 23." I'm nervous as hell, honestly... I'm afraid that I'll spend the time and money and get nothing at the end, even though all the people I've talked to have had success finding a job afterwards.

Anyway, I was here asking about things a couple months ago, and thought I'd let everybody here know what my final decision was. Thanks for all the support, and I'll keep you guys posted as it goes along.

Just have fun, man. iFOD is a relaxed and fun atmosphere which will calm your nerves on the first day. Study up and have fun with it. There will be a job available on the other side as long as you are willing to move. Good luck and enjoy that north Texas heat this summer.

A job with who?? let me know where.. been licensed for 10 years, 3 company's 25 years overall airline / aerospace experience.. and nothing.. been 3o 2 interviews this year and all the jobs were filled by guys with 15 to 20 years dispatching.. that was Pinnacle and Republic.. and willing to start over on the pay..

You know I wish you new guys all the luck in the world to get that job.. but the schools have got to make the market for dispatchers look better than it is, otherwise they don't fill the classroom up...

Real world is the facts of the economy.. not rose colored glasses from a schools recruiters.. Sorry for the wet blanket.. but I would be looking real hard at some other field in aviation by dispatching or flying..

The one job that is always needed and has tons of opening are the A&P's.. now that is a license you will never go hungrey with.. JMHO..

Don't be discouraged. Sure, the economy stinks...it did when I got in a couple of years ago too, but I still made it and am now pushing heavy iron around. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out where the industry stands and what one is getting themselves into when taking that first step. The important thing is you've decided to take that first step and nose-up to the challenge. Study hard, practice professionalism, and work on standing out and networking and you should be fine. If airline operations is something you can see yourself getting into, then go for it. Ignore all of the pessimism in this world...it gets people who wear it on their shoulders nowhere. And remember, there's more out there than just 121 DX'in gigs where a dispatch license is either required or comes in handy.
