If anyone wondered how bad Mesa needs pilots...

There have been no reserve lines for SKYW at ORD, DEN, and SLC (at least F/O's) for the past three bids. AUG DEN bid: 155 F/O's, 168 guaranteed lines, 179 project PBS lines. I'm expecting another 98 hour month... at least the second half will pay second year pay.

So its not just Mesa... although I do enjoy watching JO loose pilots with no end in sight.

And it's only going to get worse.

Eventually all regionals are going to see a significant reduction in time on reserve. To the point, that more cancellations due to a lack of crews will occur.

ASA reserve time is at less than a month right now.

Essentially, fly hard your first two weeks, hit your reserve guarantee, and then sit on your can for the rest of the month so the company doesn't have ot pay you more. Then, next month, you have a line.

Only going to get worse.

Wow. We at least have reserve FOs at all three bases. CAs will probably be in short supply in DTW and MSP in the near future. They're having to have TDYs just to cover the open vacancies they can't fill with FOs that don't want to upgrade and go back to being on reserve.

Now that the unprofitable EAS operation is on it's way out, what do you think about the prospect of JO selling Mesa to SKYW or Republic?

Is it true upgrade times have dropped? I know a guy who just started and he said they are trying to find people to upgrade.

For some strange reason I have no sympathy for JO and his staffing problem.

Like the old saying goes "you get what you pay for"

I guess that's why Mesa pilots have been know to crawl out the service entrance after a flight to avoid getting junior-manned as soon as they walk out the main cabin door. Funny thing is, most of them end up at SkyWest and we have a few domiciles with no reserve lines too.

Not a chance! Besides Air Midwest is the one operating the EAS routes. JO cant give them pilots because he's so desperate himself to staff Mesa and Freedom! They'll be shut down eventually.

the first time i have seen staplegun show anger towards a company. as they say in horse racing. go baby go!!!!! :)

you are right. being more specific i should have said mr. JO.

I know you're kidding... kinda ;)

There are individuals in this business who I find vile and contemptible. It's a short list and JO is on it...

They're likely in a similar situation to us. We've got guys with the times to upgrade, but they don't want to sacrifice the QOL to do so. Those of us that are willing to make that sacrifice and get the hell out of here faster don't have the times to upgrade yet. They're starting a new "mentor program" this month, but the minimums for that are kinda outta whack with what they need. For example, you need 1300 hours of time at the company in order to enter the program for the reduced CA upgrade mins. The problem is, anyone that has that amount of time already qualifies for upgrade since we were still hiring at 1000-1200 when they were hired on. I'm missing it by 300 hours, and I got hired with almost 1000. By the time I meet the mins to enter the mentor program, I'm almost going to have the TT to upgrade anyway. So, the mentor program won't even be a benefit to the company until the low time guys hired within the past 6-8 months hit 1300 hours with the company almost a year from now. If they were looking for a quick fix to the upgrade issue, they missed the mark by about 500 hours.

i feel bad for them

I sure as hell don't! I enjoy it to no end! Makes me feel great that they are loosing pilots who are going on to greener pastures, and now because of how they treated/paid thier people they are catching the backlash. I think this is the shoe on the other foot.
