IACRA question

I'm trying to create a new application to add an AMEL class rating to an existing Commercial ASEL Instrument Airplane certificate, but at the end in Step 6, the certificate summary keeps showing:
Limitations:
AIRPLANE MULTIENGINE VFR ONLY
...even though I have an instrument rating and will be doing the IFR stuff as part of the AMEL checkride. Back in Step 2, seems like I can enter an added instrument rating of "INSTRUMENT AIRPLANE MULTIENGINE", but it fails the validation check at Step 6, saying:

Go Back to Step 3 to correct the following problems:
•Must hold airplane rating type to apply for instrument airplane.
So what gives? Must I enter two separate applications, one for the added AMEL class rating, then another for "instrument airplane multiengine"?

I'm not 100% certain, but I think I heard somewhere that it will list as "Limited to VFR only" until you actually take the checkride, then the examiner can override it and remove the VFR restriction. I'd call the DPE to find out if he knows what to do.

As an interesting note, I have a friend who has a commercial multi certificate that *should* be limited to VFR, but isn't, because the examiner forgot to write it on the paperwork. My buddy took a strictly VFR checkride and never intended to get instrument privileges in a twin (even though he had CSEL and IR), but he has the privileges now because the examiner messed up.

This is "normal" for IACRA. The DE will override this. I had the same situation when I did my CMEL add on.

I am SO glad I never had to work with IACRA. So many of the DEs I worked with were technologically challenged. I can't imagine them trying to do this stuff.

Heck, when I went into the FSDO for my Ground Instructor, even the FAA Examiner had no idea about IACRA, so I ended up doing paper. Now, I know that my DPE for my last two checkrides would never use it.

i hate iacra! they are not cool with macs and it takes twice as long to fill the crap out on a checkride. just adds to the tension and nervousness.
