IACRA Fun

I've got a student about to go up for a Private Multi-Engine add-on. He's got a Private Single-Engine; Instrument Airplane at the moment.

The issue comes when we tried to get his Multi-Engine add-on into IACRA as the rating sought. Everything looked good up until we went to review his application. It's got the VFR only limitation on it. Since he'll be doing an single-engine approach on the ride, I'd like to get that removed from there. I've tried pretty much everything to remove it, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Any tips?

The DPE has the option to remove it when he goes through the system, IIRC. Or at least that's how it worked for me last summer, in this same situation.

Did you click on Instrument rating too?

Well there was a dropdown box that said "Additional Class/Rating" and we selected Airplane Multi-Engine Land. That same dropdown box had "Instrument Rating" in it and you could only select either or.

Hopefully the DE can remove it.

It's already been said, but when I did my multi, it had the VFR limitation on it, and the DPE had to remove it after the ride.

However, to be safe (not just in this situation, but for every applicant), send them with an endorsed 8710-1 too. Even if everything is perfect and the examiner is skilled in using IACRA, there is always the danger of not being able to get Internet connection or some physical computer problem.

A good examiner has work-arounds. I have seen it done many times by an examiner I regularly work with.

All of our guys go up with the "VFR only" thing as well. Upon successful outcome of the checkride the DE fixes the glitch.

And we put up ALOT of guys

Always a good idea to have a Plan B!

Our examiner asked for a paper 8710 when our internet was down.

What are his work-arounds for an electrical failure at the airport or a printer that is out of ink? Does he bring his own computer, air card, and printer with him?

IACRA

IACRA is useful but the system is slow and inefficient at all. :(

I wonder what is the FAA doing?
