I mentored a private pilot

I found out last night that my friend passed his private pilot checkride!!!!! I have mentored Chad since the late summer and on days he wasn't helping docs put people to sleep in the OR he was out flying. He told me a few days ago that he was going to take his ride when he got back from a trip to Costa Rica. He went to the airport yesterday to practice for his checkride. There was an examiner there for another student who just didn't show up for his ride. Chad's instructor suggested Chad go for it. Well, he did and he passed!!!

I feel very proud bringing Chad into the world of aviation!!! I'm trying to get him on here, but he was too busy working as an anesthesist (sp) and taking care of his kids on weekends.

Has anyone else mentored a pilot ???

Mentoring is like a drug... without the ill effects afterwards... ;)

It's part of that whole... "Pay It Forward" aspect of this business in my opinion. There were folks that helped me out... that I'd call in the middle of the night to ask questions... etc. I'll never forget them... and the best way I can pay them back is by doing it for someone else.

Seriously... It's such a great feeling helping folks achieve their dreams. You've helped him do something that many folks only dream of... and something that less than 1% of the polulation has done. No matter what happens down the road Chad will always remember what you've done for him... and hopefully... he'll pay you back too... by helping someone else. :)

ANESTHETIST.

What a feeling it is to see someone succeed who has been sheltered and fostered under your own wing! Great!

I was thinking of putting CRNA, but not everyone knows those initials. And it does feel great!!

I forgot to add in, now to help him get his instrument!

:yeahthat: Exactly what I would have said! Very well put :)

I'm an AOPA mentor, but haven't gotten much action on it. I tried volunteering for the local boy scout troop (I'm an Eagle scout :) ) but that never panned out.

I'm willing! What am I doing wrong?
