Ok sorry for the cheesy title, but it was the first time I got jet-blasted by anything. Actually it wasnt even a jet blast, more like a warm breeze when the engines were pointed towards me, lol.
So heres my story, im sitting there eating dinner when I hear a faint rumble in the distance, not thinking much of it since the WyANG C-130s were out doing something earlier I continue eating. A few seconds later Im drawn to the noise again but this time it hasn't 'morphed' into the rumble of a C-130 engine, I get off my lazy bum and walk over to the window to see some kinda jet off in the distance I stare at it for a second and it soon takes the shape of a 757. Ok, now most here wouldnt get to excited about the site of a 757 but for me in little Cheyenne Wyoming this really something, since the biggest things we ever have is the ANG C-130's and occasionally a Gulfstream during the rodeo. I run down stairs to grab my camera and truck keys and make a bee-line for the airport. Because of inclament(sp?) weather United had to divert some planes here from Denver. By the time I got there another A-320(I think, may have been a -319, dont follow the airliners too much)has landed and I can see another -320(again maybe a -319) on final. A bunch of other people show up and a few have scanners, which is good because the batteries died on mine earlier and they didnt have enough time to charge. By the time they all came in there were two 757's and three Airbus things. So I sit there for about an hour just watching the planes(gotta wonder what the people onboard though about a bunch of people starring at some planes just sitting there, lol). After maybe an hour-hour and a half the first Airbus fires up and leaves so I make my way over to the other side of the terminal where there getting another Airbus ready to go back to Denver. Im standing next to the old controll tower when it starts its taxi and turns away from me then it hits me, the warm breeze from the jet engines. I know this may sound stupid to a lot of you but to me this was kinda like a surreal moment. Really made me remember why I love airplanes/flying so much. Over the course of another hour or two all the other planes take there turns to leave. The last plane to leave was one of the United 757's. I was litterally standing maybe 50 yards from its tail just hopping to get hit by the jet blast again when the line-kid points his little light up orange stick at me and motions for me to move away. So I oblige and watch from a distance a little further away. All in all it was a pretty cool thing for me tonight, especially since it was Sunday night with notheing else to do but watch TV and be a couch potato.
Heres the pics I was able to get before the batteries died.(Damn digital cameras) This is the first time Ive ever taken pictures of airplanes so sorry for the poor quality.
NetJets Citation taxing in, not sure if this was a diversion or if it was supposed to be here.
United 757 Climbing out going back to Denver
United A-320 going back to Denver
Great Lakes E-120, not a diversion
Something that surprised me, some of the guys that were marhalling planes around and refuelling them didnt seem to be older than 16 or 17. I always though they would want you to be atleast 18 to do that. Anybody know? Im gonna head down to SkyHarbor tommorow and see
1) If there hiring
2) If there willing to hire a 17 year old(me)
Wish me luck!
Edit: Spelling and grammar errors. I know theres a lot more, feel free to correct me.
