Back in 2009 when me and my wife found out we were having a girl the naming process had to begin. After a list of names neither one of us could agree on, my wife called me and said what about "Amelia". I loved it! Of course because of the aviation history it had but it just sounded nice as well. And that it was not that common. On my daughter Amelia's 1st birthday we wanted kind of an Amelia Earhart theme to it. So my wife found some pictures and posters online. When she called the company, she got to talking to the lady who ran it, and the lady said "you know, Amelia Earhart has a stepson. And he lives in Boynton Beach, FL." Which is where we live and the stuff my wife bought was being shipped to. My wife couldn't believe it nor could I. She asked the lady if she had any kind of contact information for him. And she actually gave us his email. So we emailed him to see if at all it would be possible to meet this man, a stepson of, and that had actually flown with, Amelia Earhart. To which I had learned in the coming days. After only 2 or 3 emails swaps later, me, my wife, and my daughter Amelia were invited over to he and his wife's home. only 10 minutes away from my house i grew up in! George and his wife were beyond welcoming and sincere. We sat down and he showed us pictures of his mom. It was amazing. He told stories of how he flew with her on several occasions and how sweet of a person she was. I asked him what he thought had happened to her. He said he really has no clue as well as anyone else. It was unbelievable! It was a great visit. I will never forget it and I hope my daughter one day will understand the significance of where her name comes from and how close we got to history. George sadly passed away this September 2013 at the age of 92....
