...but it is NOT a good idea to change the little fuel flex hose in the wing root of a high-wing Cessna without draining the associated tank. It is, however, a good way to make a normally rather mild-mannered individual use some very colorful language.
 
No... the little 3" long main fuel feed hose that goes from the nipple on the bottom of the tank to the hard line in the doorpost.

Hm... every one I've seen has been a hard line all the way to the tank...

What kind of Cessna are we talking about here?


I was talked into changing a 182 fuel selector:

"Just pull em quick and cap em, no need to drain it."

heh... Removing and capping them was simple... reinstalling the fuel selector was pure hell and 50 gallons later I finally got it.

if there was ever a day I thought I was going to blow up, that was it.

Hm, I've seen several like this particular configuration-it's not really even a flex line, it's just a short length of rubber hose that slides over the 2 hard lines (just like the vent lines do). I can just imagine the fuel selector. That must have been a real joy.

Oh man... I wish I could send you just a fraction of the frustration as a demonstration.

Drain the tanks... it's wayyyy less work ;)
