This is nothing new, about 2 years ago I went to a LoPresti Seminar about this Doctor from Vero beach Florida, former MIT grad that built something like that and reproduced the Flight of the Icarus Legend. he did this in 1988.

I understand what you're trying to say, but its a lot more remarkable to build a human powered ornithopter.

Wow! That is undeniably a great feat of aerostructure engineering; to be so light and strong and still have the wing twist just the way you want it to.

I always figured human-sized ornithopters were impractical because the Reynold's numbers don't work out. I guess that's why the wing span is so huge(?). It might be a compromise between keeping the chord length short while still having enough flappy-part to produce a useful force.

Its not so much a fantasy now as it was 200 years ago. It is a reality now and to be honest it is a milestone for materials and aeronautical engineering. Why are you pissing on this parade
