How to create CFI lesson plans...

Hey everyone,

Last week i passed my multiengine commercial checkride and now I'm working towards creating lesson plans for my CFII. The flight school where I plan on working told me the best plan for me is to go the route of CFII to MEI and then to CFI. I'd love to hear any thoughts on that plan as well, but for the moment I was wondering what books, websites, etc., you guys recommend to start putting these lesson plans together. I really do want to go about these independently and learn by doing it for myself, but if anyone can put me in the right direction, that'd be great. Have a great weekend...

Why make your own?

Use a seasoned CFI's outline and add your own material. Copied handouts, PTS study points and any special emphases areas. As a new instructor your bound to miss something. Nobody's perfect, but using a thorough and well thought out lesson plan can eliminate those " I forgot to talk about this " moments you will have as a teacher.

I agree... and my stock answer every time this topic comes up and I notice it:

Here's everything from my own 'instructors toolkit' (for free - just pay it forward someday) - just remember R&D does not stand for Research and Development... it stands for Ripoff and Duplicate. The stuff isn't perfect but it got me through my checkride plus four years of teaching. Use it and enjoy, the only thing I ask is that you please don't strip my name off of 'Capt. Midnight's Guide to Talking on the Radio.' (But, of course, feel free to give it out and use it as a resource, etc. etc. - it's one of the best things I've ever written in the aviation world.)

Edit: (noticed you from SoCal... here's one more link)

Private Pilot CheckRide Prep Powerpoint

I used this powerpoint to prep my students for their private checkride. The examiner I used to be out of SMO, but he moved to the central valley. I'm guessing the prep is still valid after 4 years.

Aww. You guys are too nice. I really appreciate the help. Can't wait to get started on all of this. Basically right after I passed my commercial ride on Thursday, as I was heading out the door and the Chief Instructor says, oh hey....lesson plan time....let me show you how to do it. But he kind of showed me in 30 secs so i figured I'd come here for further input.

Cleared for Option....I see we're both from so cal andddd we've both held the Stanley Cup. Good times! and thanks again!
