hi everyone:
I am from China . I will go america to start my flight training. I am self-sponsored so I want the training should be of high quality and the cost should be as low as possible :yup: !
I have 0 time now, and I want to obtain an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane single , multiengine and Instrument Ratings.
Till now , I have got some estimates from some flight school. But most of these estimates are not based on the realistic. I am confused now!!! . some people told me that I can spend only 26K to obtain those and some people told me the training cost is about 40k ! which one is true ?
I need an estimates based on realistic!!!
And if finance permitting , I want to choose a flight academy like Pan Am because I think it would be better for me to apply the visa!
so can only one tell me how much I need if I choose to be tained in Pan Am! or give me other suggestions.
thank you! my email is :dongdp@mail.sioc.ac.cn or dongdpsioc@hotmail.com

This isn't an official forum for Pan Am so the answer you receive here may or may not be valid.

I strongly suggest contacting them directly.

yes I have send them two email. but there's no reply from them.
In fact , I don't know how to choose a flight school for my training. Different schools have their differet advantages and disadvantages. I want to choose one from Anglo-Amercia ,Pan Am, Skymates, Hillsboro.
Because my wife will go America for her postdoctor and she can find a position in Dallas or San diego, the location of Anglo-America and Skymates are very good. But conversion from FAA to CAAC will need additional money , time and exam in China. Pilot trained in Pan Am or Hillsboro need not to pass the CAAC exam , the conversion will be very easy. But I will be far away from my wife, and I need more money to sustain my life. COL will be higher than Anglo-america or Hillsboro.

Because I am self-sponsored, I shall pass the CAAC instrument and commercial checkride when I comeback china and convert the FAA license to CAAC license. Both these checkride will use seminole or DA 42 as the test aircraft. So I will choose the flight school which use seminole or DA 42 for their multi engine rating.

There were no "self-sponsored" int'l students at PAIFA when I went through. Everyone was in an airline-specific program or in a college program. The KLM guys paid their way, but were part of the airline curriculum.

I don't know if you've heard anything from the school, but I think almost everyone there is an int'l contract student (airline or college) now.

If you really want to go to PAIFA but still be with your wife, Arizona State University is nearby and has a campus in Glendale. That's about 10 minutes from Deer Valley. My wife went there while I was training.

Good luck.

Might want to look at Falcon Aviation Academy in Atlanta (well - really just south of Atlanta in Peachtree City GA. www.faa-air.com)

I just love it when they won't give you an estimate of how much--sort of like the used car dealership. I went to the flightsafety website, nuthin', got thier brochure package in the mail---still nuthin'! Tells me right there it's too much.

I know there is a little variation due to different people requiring different hours but a ballpark figure would be nice--

Looks like about $68,400 and 10 months (not including room and board for that time)... acoording to this site which supposedly offers non-biased Flight Academy style school pricing info.

Personally, I think ari-ben aviator offers the best deal for international students. I've noticed a lot of programs in the last few years that have popped up and seem to cater only to overseas students, and also charge unfair prices. PanAm has kind of transitioned to this type of academy, in my opinion, along with DCA. You can do your ratings at ari-ben for half the cost and it will be mostly multi-time
