Horrible Flying weather on the way? Weather.com thinks so yikes

The only day for the next 10 days that doesnt have predicted snow/rain stuff is Thursday and next Wednesday. And UND Aerospace is closing early that day so there are basically hardly any launches. I wanted to do my Cross Country or night flight.

I really really really want to finish before spring break. If I do not, I will just stay spring break and finish.

I finished 21 tonight. Long briefing. Really long.

Keep in mind that my instructor and I are going out of order. I haven’t done the solo 19 due to weather. We are going to do a cross country or night flight and then solo me.

So basically I need the weather to not suck to even have a shot at it. I figure I need to do my 26 by March 1st. If I do not finish by March 31st, I auto fail ground school... again.

Still do not know what I am doing about next year. My instructor is a lot better and I am starting to fly a lot more. How ever, if I could pick UND vs FBO and start completely over I would pick the FBO way. I just havent decided if the difference is worth making a huge switch. I am pretty undecided.
 
Weather is unpredictable. Just keep plugging away. Show UND what you're made about. That's what I try and do, finish quickly, and show off my skills I learned at a local FBO back home, not here at UND. You'll do just fine with your commitment, Justin.

Thanks Adam. I appreciate it. Has 112 taught you anything remotely close to being worth the cost of the course?

It didn't with me. 112 was a pretty big waste of money and time, except for gaining some additional flight time I guess. I learned the local airport operations of grand forks. That's about it. Nothing that couldn't have been covered in one breifing and maybe one or two flights.

Yes yes, before you UND zealots jump on me, I understand there are people that need to be "checked" to make sure they're proficient. :)

The young man who crashed at CKN was a 112 student.

Be interesting to see what the NTSB comes up with......
 
112 at GFK I can understand. issues at all. 112 at CKN I dont' understand as it is a class G airport......
 
Guys, that isn't even funny to joke around about. One of our fellow students (fellow human beings) is dead. There is no need to be saying stuff like that. :mad:.

I knew this was going to be taken as a joke - it wasn't meant to be a joke. It was meant to imply that 112 is a worthless course designed to make UND money and that the course wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome of that flight. If the student isn't up to par for 221 and above, weed them out by having them do a 112 final stage check. If they don't pass, don't allow them to solo until they have completed a personally designed train-to-proficiency course. Simple.

I'm not going to start another 112 sucks arguement though :)

und's 15 lesson test course for people who already hold a PPL to see if they really know how to fly an airplane before letting them do the next courses. students even have to complete the PPL groundschool(i think, i can't remember for sure)

It's the private pilot test course (for incoming students who already hold a private pilot certificate).

Those of you so against 112 have obviously never taught a test course student. Some are good, others will make you wonder how they ever managed to pass their part 61 checkride.

Caution: :sarcasm: ahead. It's a test course at UND that costs around $4500 for students to complete if they come in with their Private Pilot's license. It's to test their flying skills and knowledge to ensure that they are up to UND's EXCEPTIONAL standards since UND is the best flight school in the world. We also have the best pilots in the world. Our low time pilots are better than any 10,000+ ATP. No one else can compare. All the airlines come to us and BEG for our students to work for them - this is why you should come to UND. "Airline hiring reps, please make a single file line for this exceptional pilot! We will now take bids for this student. Please take your final purchases to the registers." It's THAT good!

You learn to find the practice areas established by UND and know how to identify UND checkpoints, since Grand Forks area is so difficult to figure out (it's a densely populated metropolis so finding checkpoints is very difficult).

Oh! And what's cool is you get to do your first solo all over again. "Gotta be signed off - you're one of those dangerous pilots from those crappy FBOs!"

Seriously, some of you guys have a real crappy attitude towards everything. It must suck to be so freaking misserable.

Lighten up! It's all in good humour. :nana2: UND is out to get me - out to get my money! Nothing wrong with that - they're a business too, right?

So...to get this thread back on track......

If there is one thing I have learned while living in North Dakota -- NEVER TRUST THE WEATHER FORECAST. It is usually isn't right ;)
