I was wondering if anyone knew of some legit places for flight training on Oahu, primarily the Honolulu area. Just making sure there is some good flight training there before I move out there for college! Either Hawai'i Pacific University or University of Hawai'i-Manoa, but that's another thread.

HPU alum checking in....You can't go wrong with the school. Enjoy....:rawk:

HPU alumni here too. I did all my classes through the military bases though so I can't speak for how the campus life is.

Honolulu has two FBO's. Anderson aviation and Flight School Hawaii. You can also go down to the blue T-hangars and often find flight instruction deals. That is where I learned to fly. Nothing like doing a cross country over the open ocean with no land in sight.

Hawaii? Flight schools on base?

Wow! I'm thoroughly surprised that there's alumni from there on JC. :)
I'm extremely excited, but distrought between which university to attend.
HPU has men's soccer, which attracts me, and if I can get on the team, I'll definitely go there.

I got my PPL and instrument at FSH there in Honolulu. Pretty good operation, no complaints really.

My wife also attended HPU for a few semesters as well. She seemed to be satisfied with the classes she took there.

Sorry to hijack a little here, but I just have to say that I would love so much to fly in Hawaii. It must be so awesome.

Being in Hawaii is what gave me the desire and drive to become a pilot in the first place. I was not one of those pilots who always wanted to be a pilot ever since I was a kid and knew every spec on every airplane ever build since the beginning of time. I honestly think that if I wasn't living in Hawaii then I would have never even considered becoming a pilot. My first time flying outside of Hawaii I was very disappointed with the (lack of) scenery.

Haha, it must be amazing.
Here in southern Missouri... well, it's not exactly the most beautiful.

You would be very excited fly in Bravo airspace. Flight School Hawaii is a nice school, however, kind of expensive. You can go to the end of Lagoon Drive, you would see Geoge's Aveation, Bob Becka is a nice instructor, he is a golden Seal pilot, also an ATP. You could learn a lot from this old guy.

I am a UND Grad, but we had operations out in Kalaeloa and I attended there in '05-'06 out at Barber's Point. Pretty cool sharing parallel 200' wide runways with C-130's, P-3's, a BBJ now and again (Air Force), and some C-17's. Not to mention school was taught in an old Navy Hangar. We were affiliated with HCC at the time with our "Pacific Aerospace Training Center" I believe that HCC still runs it with a partnership through Galvin Flight Services out of Seattle or Portland? I have fond memories of my first solo day/night and solo xc's to Maui, Kahlupapa, Molokai, Lanai, and Kona in good ol' PA28's and using call sign KULA.

Anyone know if this operation is still going out there?
