Honolulu Community College (Hawaii) to UND

Hello,

I am new to this forum.

Are there any Honolulu Community College Commercial Aviation (AVIT) transfer students here? If so, I am hoping someone could help me with some input.

I am enrolled in the HCC program for Spring 2005. Registration starts next month. I am entering the program with my Private (ASEL). I got my training through the Civil Air Patrol and the Hawaii Flight Academy in Hilo so all of my flying has been right here in Hawaii (mostly around the Hilo area on the Big Island where I live; and also over the Kilauea volcano on scenic flights).

I am planning on doing the transfer to UND (most likely Commercial Aviation but I may do ATC). I just wanted to know what your flying experience was like flying in ND after learning to fly in Hawaii. Also... what was your opinion on the level of consistency in the training between the facilities and staff in HI and ND.

My old instructor had a student from Hawaii. He transferred in during multi and he said his biggest problem was finding the airport and reporting points visually because the land is flat for miles and everything looks the same. He didn't have problems with flying though.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I was really wondering about stuff like that. I was thinking I'm getting too used to using the ocean and shoreline around the islands for reference.
