Holy Flight Loads Batman!

Man, I'm trying to get my wife back from Buffalo and the loads are INSANE! She could have made it early this morning but couldn't get a ride to the airport. There's no seats at all to get back to CLT in the next 2 days, that included first class and going through LGA, PHL, BOS, and DCA. There's a flight that's wide open to BDL tomorrow, but she would probably be stuck there. I even checked ROC-CLT and from ROC back here through DCA, BOS, LGA, and PHL.

Looks like I might be spending my birthday all by my lonesome. Normally if you show up for the first flight of the day there will be people who don't make it (especially out of CLT), but that's mostly business travellers and out of BUF it's about 95% people going on vacation.

ID90 maybe?

Yup things have been quite full this summer.

I flew into BUF last week and the gate agent was talking about how two of our morning flights to EWR were always just half full...not sure if that's actually the case, but you might want to look into ID90s or ZED fares as BobDDuck suggests.

Oh and happy b-day.

Thanks for the B-Day wish. We looked at some ID-90's and since the loads are full no can do.

There's actually a CHQ flight to PHL and mainline flight to DCA on Wednesday (the beginning of my 33rd year in this world) that look decent.

Anyone using the hub notice it will say there are seats online and then when you call it will say zero? I had that problem when I commuted out of Dayton, it would say there are lots of seats online and I would show up and be SOL. I even called crew sked to pull up Sabre and they told me flights are overbooked by 5-10 seats out of BUF. They've been calling me on my days off and asked if I wanted to work tonight or tomorrow. I almost took the deal if they would have given me some days off later this month (like my BD, I have an out and back as part of my build up) but they wouldn't go for it. No scratchie my back I no scratchie yours.

I was loving the single life this weekend, my neighbor and I had a rockin' BBQ and even got a keg. I was getting lonely by the end of the night and I drunk dialed my wife at her mom's at 3am early on Sunday morning. Ooops! Things are getting lonely around here, I sure am whipped!

You drunk dialed your wife... at your mother in laws house? That is awsome.

As far as the hub thing? I don't know. I can't ever get on it.:insane:

I figured it was cheaper than a 900 number. Maybe there was a reason she turned the phone off. She was SLEEPING! They all laughed about it, at least they're understanding!

I need your roomba here now, the house is still a little trashed after Saturday night. We got a neighborhood band going. It ended up being me with the acoustic at the end of the night. I'm getting ready to play some happy hour gigs for cash, you and Pauly should come down some time. He can drink for free. I'm sure we could get you some cheap H20 as well.

I still need to clean the house but I'm throwing in a new turbo and radiator in my car. It cooked on the drive home from the airport the other day.

so is she still trying to get home or just staying put for now?

summertime is really never a good time to fly non-rev!! during summer, it actually pays to buy a ticket - esp if you need to be there and/or get back!!

The loads right now must be at an all time high. I have never before in my short time here seen back to back completely full flights out of CLT. If US Air isn't making money now we are all %$#.

Speaking of which - for the other feeder flyers out there what does your company have you do to conserve gas? It seems mine could care less, we are absolutely forbidden to do single engine taxis. As a pilot I try and stay as high as possible and do idle decents but sometimes that's just not feasible...although when they are it is fun! 30,000 ft. to 1,500 ft. ending up configured on a 5 mile final without touching the throttles is pretty cool.

Yeah, the loads are insane. I can't believe I made it from CMH to LAX and back this weekend. I think I got lucky! I decided to leave LA a couple hours early because of overbooking and when I got to Vegas to connect, the agent said my first choice connection was overbooked?? I was like WTF, ma'am?? I picked this one because it wasn't overbooked...what happened??

Turns out she was looking at it the wrong way and as I was finishing my lunch, I noticed that the amount of people in line to board didn't look like a full load. I went up to the counter and sure enough, she was looking for me as she hadn't taken my name! Whew, that was a close one!

We do single engine taxis but somehow your fuel numbers were the same when they were presented to mainline. We had one of your guys ride our JS and we talked about that for a while. I think we're all trying to get more airplanes/flying from mainline.

They just put a couple 70 seaters on the PHL-MSP run, but the added capacity just isn't enough.

I wasn't so concerned about "looking" good to the tempe folks, I was just concerned that the more money we spent in gas is less money US Air has in their coffers. I would like them to actually post some meaningful profits one day :).

I hear that AA and Eagle are huge into fuel savings, they almost always have a jetway with ground power/etc instead of running APU's. Look at SWA, they shut em down right away and plug in ground power and LP air to cool the cabin.

We TRY to do the whole ground power/air thing when we pull into the gate and shut down the APU. Tends to be kinda difficult air wise in the summer, though. Single engine taxi is a BIG thing here (we're supposed to do it all the time unless it's a short taxi). I generally go for the idle descents as well, but I'm not as familiar with the plane as wheelsup to get it configured without touching the throttles....yet. :)

You'll get more comfortable as things progress.

My wife is enroute as I type, looks like I'm going to get a good sushi birthday dinner!

Forgive the question from the uneducated, but why do airlines overbook? Is it because they expect no-shows?

Pretty much. One of the only airlines that didn't overbook was Indy air...

I took a jumpseat on AWAC the other day and was talking about fuel stuff. The captain said it really didn't matter if they saved gas or not as their company didn't pay for hit. I didn't tell him that my company was paying for that gas in a way. Oh well. I think our fuel numbers are much better then most of the others, but our managment has been telling us they suck to try to make them even lower. Go figure.

Stuff we generally do that I haven't seen AWAC do:
-SE Taxi
-APU off after engine start or immediatly after take off
-APU on after landing (AWAC seems to turn it on at 10K)
-Take out the second coffee maker to save weight:insane:

Sorry, I'm in a list making mood!
