Holy Crap....

4 out of 5 great lakes prefer Michigan.
I knew it was coming...deep in the bowels of my subconscious....My wife and I have been scratching together a decent life for ourselves...ulitmately buying a house last year, only months before the bubble popped and payed much more then what it's currently worth 18 months later. (D'Oh!!!)
My first child arrived in June, much to my overwhelming joy. Now the decision has been made, I'm the only breadwinner now...yup, my wife quit her teaching job, so that leaves me to go out and make it happen...(I'm glad I realized when I did the true effects of SJS, cause that 25K loan isn't pretty now, but if left unchecked I'm sure I'd be even deeper..glad I cut and ran when I did. Guess I'll slowly finish that Commerical and CFI down the road.)

For now though, It's 80 hour weeks at my IT Consultant job, US Airways Ramp here in Phoenix, and Online classes to get my BS in Secondary Education....

Who needs a social life?.....

I'm actually very happy with my life, but that dream is every so quietly slipping away into the "coulda beens" with the rest of the unemployed pilots.

There are times when I think I would have been better off with the cash I spent on training going elsewhere. Then I spent 2 months away from aviation driving a truck like I used to, and I quickly realized that I am much happier flying. The job market sucks right now, and I will be furloughed for the winter from my job, but I wouldn't change a thing. Just have to press on and find the next opportunity and hopefully find a home in the long run.

Hard work pays off. I'll say good luck with everything but if you can handle 80 hour workweeks, weekend ramp in PHX, and going to school online you probably don't need it. Damn when do you sleep?

Thanks, VA stuff is finally worked out so my BAH check should be on its way!

Totally agree with you desertdog, I know I have a passion for aviation for a reason, I know who put it there (Big Guy upstairs) and He wouldn't have done that if I weren't meant to fly, but I just keep getting the feeling that it will be in his time, not mine.

Nicely said, and that is exactly how I feel about myself. That being said, I have a great job right now (non aviation), and am very happy with the job/income. If I decide to make this current job my career, I might just be flying for fun instead of going the career route. The weird thing about all of this, is that I never thought I could be happy doing anything but flying for a living.
