Although not for an aviation job, it is the first job other than waiting tables I have been hired for in over 11 years. My wife and I decided that I would be learning to fly via the part 61 small FBO route. So I found a good job in the area where we own our home for when I get out of the Navy which is now going to be in 80 days because they want me to start sooner than I thought. I got hired at a Steel Mill of all places. I can't believe I am going to be a Steel worker. Does this mean I have to quit rooting for the Bucs??? Seriously though, I was pretty excited to get the offer. The pay is ok to start but will turn into pretty good after 6 months and then to crap hot after a year. It is all shift work. I will be working 4 days on and the have 4 days off. My goal is to try and get about 9 - 10 hours a week in. I can't fly on workdays (I could but they are 12 hour days with an hour commute tacked to both ends). Anyone see a reason why 9 - 10 hours during a 4-day weekend would be an unreasonable expectation? We are still possibly considering ATP’s 10-month program but I don’t think that is the route we will take.
My goal is to get ratings and CFI part time until my wife’s salary reaches what mine is now (should be about 2 years) and then we can afford for me to bring my pay down to her current level or lower working full time in aviation. Did someone say sugar momma???
