Hilarious Reddit Review of the Q400 (NSFW)

That review falls firmly into the "it's funny 'cause it's true" category, especially the stuff about the temperature control and packs being stupidly finicky.

I've had flights where the cabin temperature has shot from perfectly fine in cruise to something like 90 degrees in the space of a few minutes during the descent, since the "auto" mode on the packs is too stupid to deal with the bleeds switching over as the power settings change.

I'm surprised he didn't add the parking brake Master caution every single time you set it. Or how it slowly loses pressure while shut down with the APU on. Or having to manually pump it up.

Lol good read.

For what it's worth, I was a pax on a Q400 once (Horizon or Alaska, I think, into Spokane - long time ago, though) and I really enjoyed the flight. I found the airplane to be relatively quiet and spacious.

I just took a job flying this thing, probably shouldn't have read that :) FWIW I just flew as a passenger on one and loved it (except for the noise). I've been told they had a lot of mechanical problems when they were new but worked them out.

"Every time you change power settings down in the 10-40% torque range the bleeds change from 2.2 - 2.7 - 3.0 making the airflow erratic and noisy and very distracting and very very irritating. "

Doesn't this happen on CRJs as well? I vaguely remember it happening when I was a passenger on a 200 or 700. Don't remember which.

NSFW for language maybe?

Pretty awesome. While I have never flown it, I have flown on it and can appreciate the struggles in the cockpit. The ones I have flown on were so loud I wore ear plugs the entire flight. I do like turbo props though, just not this one.

I hate to pile on... but while we're on the subject....

- When you try to go direct to a waypoint, and transition from hdg to nav, the airplane always turns the wrong way.
- The weather radar is about as useful as the yaw damper.
- De-Ice press caution? But the pressure is fine!
- Hooray for being able to smell the lav constantly.
