Highest Ground Speed?

Anyone catch the tailwinds in the NE today? I had the fastest groundspeed I can remember in quite some time. We were showing 628 knots - 722 miles/hr across the ground going to HPN. Nice going in - but sucked big time coming out.

What's the best speed you guys have flown?

Over 400 in the King Air today...Felt like I was in jet hehe...Of course the 153 knot winds pretty much right on the tail at fl240 had a little to do with that =).

Today was a fun day to fly! Burlington was a snowy mess tonight, and I got my first real experience with landing the airplane on a snow covered runway. Also had my first de-ice! Poor guy in the bucket! Looked freezing up there, and there was a long line after us!

sorry to hijack.

Of course we'll have to one up ya.
We were at FL300 doing .81 and showing a ground speed of 645kts. Fastest I've ever seen. Skipper said he did 668 a couple years ago.

Well we got it as a headwind from DCA-BTR just over 3 hours and the groundspeed was like 290.
A few nights ago CVG-HPN we were into the 600s.

I'm waiting for NJA_Capt to own everyone. I'm still searching for it, but there's a website out there that hosts pictures of MFDs/ASIs with unusual ground speeds.

My best ground speed was 683 KCAS at 500'AGL in the F-15E...that was just slightly over the Mach (1.2-ish IIRC). I'm sure I've been faster than that up at altitude with the aid of the jetstream, but that's the number that I remember the best and it was all due to Pratt and Whitney.

Wow...How mnay pages did you go back to find this? Or did you just do a search for your name to see who was talking about you? :laff:

408 in the Bro! It was southeastbound with a high spinning off the coast. it was for our last two legs too! Woo hoo!

The fastest(tailwind) was 274 kts in the Caravan. Sucked that day I had a 74 kt head wind going out to my destination.

I don't even pay attention/remember to the fastest in the Saab.
