High Altitude endorsement completed

Today I completed the training for the high altitude endorsement. I was fortunate enough to fly right seat in a King Air C90 on a part 91 trip (proof that networking helps). The highlight of the high alt training was a simulated emergency descent from FL250 to 3000ft - once we were cleared for the descent by Indy Center the Captain/CFI said "BANG" at which point I had to don the oxygen mask, pull back the power levers, props forward, Gear down, Approach flaps selected and keep the airspeed at 180kts. It was quite a ride. We leveled out at 3000ft and had to put on the windshield heat to melt off the frost. I then somehow managed to pull off a reasonably smooth landing too (which was the icing on the cake). It was a really memorable day for all the right reasons.

how much previous time did you have in that aircraft? that sounds pretty awesome. how long did the descent take?

The descent was about 6000ft per minute (I think - the vsi was pegged)... so it lasted approximately 3 and a half minutes. On the way down we had a couple of course changes to make on the direction of ATC.

As for time in the C90B, it was my first trip in it. I have been fortunate enough to sit right seat a few times on other King Air's (200 and F90 models) though.

I think in order to get a high altitude endorsement that you should have to have some experience in the altitude chamber. I learned a lot in there.
