Hello. Another old IT guy looking to get out of the industry. Just over 1230 hours, multi comm but only 24 multi hours. It's been tough trying to build those multi hours as the one reasonable local rental has been off the line for over a year. Otherwise, I'll just keep plugging away! There was what I thought to be an ideal posting several months back, looking for far fewer total time but required a minimum of 150 multi hours no exceptions. I was bummed but that's how it goes. Figure I'll hang out with you pros for a while, if you don't mind.

Eh, paying for more multi time hasn't changed anything for me or the other CFIs around here with ATP minimums, there just hasn't been much hiring anywhere.

that's what I hear most people saying. however, if I had the hours I prob at least would have gotten a call and a chance. but I just can't see forking out the cashola for another hundid hours or so, nosiree.

Hey @stick hang in there! The industry as you likely know ebbs and flows. My two pennies is to get the CFI/II/MEI and teach your way to the next gate. Worth it in every aspect.

@drunkenbeagle you’ve been around a minute, thought you had a 121 or 91 gig?

No gig yet, but it was only about 8 months ago I left the IT world to try flying for a living. The IT hiring climate isn't much better right now, so I'm not missing much there.

Going from part time to full time CFI has been great. Hope it doesn't last forever, as much as I like it, you can't make a living doing it for long.

If you can get an MEI and find a gig doing twin instruction, that might help in the part 91 world. My friends, more qualified than me, for the most part aren't finding anything right now. And I realize the advice to teach in twins is tough, as there isn't much multi instruction going on where I'm at, and I suspect elsewhere too.

For what it is worth, the management at the 135's I've talked to have all told me, don't bother until you can get a regional to hire you first. Their insurance is cheaper for pilots that for whatever reason leave them. And I guess there are enough of those right now.
