Does anyone have any information on the flight schools in Tulsa? I used to go to Spartan and now my schedule does not allow for a school that has a set schedule like Spartan. I need a reliable school that and/or instructor that can accommodate a schedule that allows two to three days dedication to school a week. Help please.

Welcome to the forums Sam, I am sure someone here will be able to help.

Hey JC, this guy needs good info about rentals and CFI's available in Tulsa as well as a place that has good maintenance. He was my first PPL student to pass the checkride a year and half ago.

Again, welcome to the JC community!

Go talk to Yuri at RFC, most the students are full time but they will work with you on a part time basis.

RFC won't be the school for you, Christensen aviation is a less crazy atmosphere.

Screw that, their planes are crap. I would suggest Robertson Aviation on the west side by the tower. The aircraft are very well maintained and the prices are the best on the field. They have plenty of free-lance instructors so you'd easily find someone to suit your needs.

Not true.

Chirstiansen's planes are cheaper but I cant say I havnt had maintenance problems with a couple of their planes in the past. Nothing was ever a big deal though and would reccomend them.

see, i told you that you would get some info...

I second the post on Christensen, the aircraft were decently priced but the maintenance was a little off. I am sure the airplanes were legal, but when screws and fasteners won't stay in or never get replaced it kinda makes you wonder. :dunno:

I loved the atmosphere there...everyone was friendly and willing to help, they would do just about anything you asked, within reason, to accommodate the instructor. They were wiling to get different types of home study courses for the potential students. I like the people there. Never had a chance to get to know more people on the airport live Roadhouse and any others that were there.

List of things gone wrong with Christensen planes I've flown:

  1. 2 Alternator Failures
  2. 1 Radio Failure
  3. Clogged Pitot Tube
List of things gone wrong with Robertson planes:

  1. yep, nothing
If Robertson is not the cheapest anymore, in my mind it's worth paying the difference for quality aircraft.

Also, Robertson will let you rent over night but they do require basic renters insurance for all flights.

Forgot to add the leased 172RG from Christenson to Spartan that the gear got stuck down. Luckily it wasn't stuck the other way, but it sure did increase pucker factor on landing due to not knowing if the gear was going to hold.

Weren't gear problems a monthly if not weekly problem in that school? I had a student there who had actually landed one of Spartans rg's after a gear failure. She put it on the belly and walked away. My pilot mentor was her instructor at the time and told me about it. She never did want to talk about it.

I think most of the RG's at Spartan, if not all, were leased from Christenson. And yes, they were/are piles.

Did your student land on 31 when she bellied it in? I watched an RG belly in out there a few years ago and I seem to recall that it was a female student and her instructor.

Lol I had two engine failures in the Duch and one leaky hydraulic gear from Christiansen Aviation

Aircraft that are owned by Christiansen and leases to Spartan are not maintained by Christiansen. Spartan handles all maintenance on the aircraft they fly.

Also on a previous post...Robertson has been bought out by Roadhouse, at least that's the rumor I heard last week.

Sorry should have clarified my statements about the RG. They're just piles anyways. I don't think it matters who maintains them, they're still going to be bad aircraft.

That'd be a shame if Robertson shut their doors. She really had a good thing going there.
