Dave is back, for a little while at least. I've been flying a lot and extremely busy while at work. While at home, I've been playing with the baby and extremely busy. The little guy is sleeping and the wife is shopping today so I found a little time to sneak online.

We've got just over a month left to fly here in CVG. At that point, I'll have at least a couple of months off (with pay) until I'm either retrained on the CRJ or furloughed (thanks Delta MEC /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif, but no offense to Doug). If I'm furloughed, I plan to take up the company on their offer to place us in nonflying jobs until recalled. In the meantime, I plan to do a little substitute teaching, just to stay busy.

A lot of you guys may have seen Independence CRJs up and down the East Coast. The new airline is getting off to a good start. We took delivery of the first A319 last week. Airbus service should start in November as well.

One reason that I havn't dropped in much is that my laptop doesn't like JC (or vice versa). When I log on, it always says that there is an error and shuts the browser down. If anyone can suggest a fix, please let me know.

And John, I havn't been back to AZO lately, but hopefully if I do, we can grab some lunch.

I'll try to drop back in sooner.

Took off right after one in CHS. Good luck, and I'm glad the company is standing behind pilots that are facing furloughs.

BTW, did the LAV get dumped? I didn't see it on the list of forums.

I'll let you in on a secret. If you are not logged in to JC, you will not be able to see The Lav. It's Doug's way of keeping some of the riff-raff out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ahh. I'll try that when I get a chance.

For the techies, the message I get before the browser shuts down is that there has been an illegal operation and the browser must be restarted.

Dave,

I'm guessing you're using Internet Explorer. If you are, try to run an update on it to see if you can get a newer one. If this dosen't work, I recommend Firefox from the Mozilla group.

Give it a shot. If you get back up to Kalamazoo and have a few minutes I can take a look at your box if you want, see if I can do anything for you.

Welcome back, Dave!

On the furlough thing, if I hear of anything job-weise at NetworkJC this week, I'll let you know.

I hope all is well with you and the family and if you really want to let some frustration out politically, check out arguepolitics.com

Like said above, the Lavatory is only visible to registered users because it was become the "Falujah" of Jetcareers -- attracting lots of non-aviation people that wanted to have a word with "XYZ" about a lav topic.

Ah, the joys of Microsuck......

Thanks guys.

As far as the furlough goes, the company has offered nonflying jobs to anyone who is furloughed, as well as holding bids for voluntary furloughs, no-fly lines, and part time lines. I'm planning to take a nonflying customer service job, probably at CAE or TYS if I'm furloughed. That way I keep my health insurance and flight benefits and I get to stay home with Ethan and Debi for a while. It'll be a pay cut, but probably not as much as going on training pay for another year.

The official word is that recalls will start around August 2005 so it'll be a short furlough barring a catastrophe with IA. The say that when they get the 28 Airbuses that we have firm orders for, they'll need everybody that we have now.

Seriously, if you want to head elsewhere, CHQ is hiring like mad, and mostly for the 170 program. In any case, good luck to you ... and congratulations on the little one!!

Thanks.

I've been looking at jobs. I was offered interviews at Comair, ASA, and PInnacle (where I hear that they might be looking for street captains), but with the short term furlough I think I'll be better off sticking with Independence.

I think that there is a decent chance that I'll escape the axe and, even if I don't, third year CS pay would be better than first year FO pay. I figure that I wouldn't have time to get off first year FO pay at another airline before I'm recalled.

The only real gamble is on whether Independence succeeds or not. We've definitely got 28 A319s coming and I think that the chances that IA would fail before they are delivered, and I'm needed, would be about zero.

I'm optimistic about IA's chances beyond the delivery of the 28th A319 in 2006, but I do have to consider the possibility that something will go wrong. I'd like to keep my options open with other regionals in case something bad does happen. For that reason, I don't want to go to training and quit a couple of months later. I also don't want to get stuck in a training contract.
