Quick question for all you ERJ guys out there....

I was on a ERJ 145 for the first time the other day and it seemed really loud, not engine noise but just wind noise.

Are they all like this?

Are the larger ERJs loud too?

Was it just my hangover?

I made a connection onto a CRJ 200 and it did not seem so loud, sitting in row 2 both flights.

WHAT?!

After 8 years and over 5000 hours in it, yeah, it's a touch loud. Could somebody answer that phone?!

They took the nose off a Brasilia and made it go 400+ knots. It produces a transonic shockwave right above the cockpit. It's like sitting under a waterfall. The noise extends about 5 or so rows into the cabin.

The ERJ 135-145s are loud for a jet. But they are still quiet in terms of overall aircraft. The mainline wannabe ERJs are quieter. Personally I find it funny when people are using ANR headsets in the ERJ-145 along with ear plugs. It really is not that loud at all and the DCs easily bring the noise to a safe level.

That said I have experience in one of the loudest (if not the loudest) airplane you can fly inside of (cargo BE-99) so I could be wrong. The ERJ sound is not loud at all IMO with a normal headset on. If anything I get way more hearing damage from the people that go all out with the ear plugs and crank the headset and com volumes to 100% and leave it than the airplane itself.

WSCOD pilots griping about the noise caused by making the Brasilia nose fly 400+ knots have obviously never experienced the Brasilia.

"WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY?"
