Has Delta outsourced its reservations to India? I just called them and the person sounded Indian.

Sorry, I'm not Doug but I do work for Delta - Yes we do have a major call center there in India. We have had a lot of valid complaints about it but I don't know it Delta plans staying there or not. In fact, just the other day there was a mechanical cancelation in OAK during spring break, and a family with three small kids going to Disney World called reservations to be rebooked. They were rebooked out of SNA (unknown to them) but told to go to SJC to catch the flight. Needless to say they were pretty pis$ed by the time we could rebook them for the next day.

There have been other major scew ups as well, but hey were saving money right?

I had trouble understanding the person I talked too. I checked the same flight she quoted me on Delta's website and it was $75.00 cheaper.

I've been finding that the internet rates are cheaper than if you call reservations personally...I don't know why that is, but always check the internet first!

The only time I book a reservation through the 800 number is if it is something you can't do online ... like third-party award travel or something. The web sites have a huge amount of functionality now; it is great.

Word of advice for those who use Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, etc. Use those sites to shop around for good deals, but buy your tickets from the individual airline directly. You'll get the same fare from the airline website, but save yourself the $5 (or more!) processing fee they charge, plus most airlines offer bonus miles for buying from their website.

"We would like remind you that lower fares may be available through our website at whatever.com and thank you for holding."

Here's a tip:
If you "prefer" to speak to US based reservation agents, when calling Delta, try the International reservations #'s.
They will help you (even if it is a domestic reservation).
I heard of pax that lost luggage from, lets say, FL to ATL and when they call Delta for assistance somebody picked up the phone on the other side of the world!!! Talk about double aggravation.

When I was in Australia - I had a problem with my AA awards ticket on QF, I called the Platinum number yet I was only gold. I apologized and the lady happily helped me! IT WAS GREAT! But the best is the AA number in the UK - no menu prompts.
