Help - Need location Advice

Hello all I am a first time poster here and was looking for a little help and some direction.

I am considering both ATP 60 day PPL and the 90 day ACPP and have done a good amount of research and decided that ATP is for me.

I have PM'ed a few of the frequent posters on this forum and haven't heard back yet but I suppose everyone is a litttle busy lately, so I figured I would put this out there for everyone and maybe get some adivce.

I know that the topic has been covered already probably a number of times but was curious to know whether one location may be better than another for the 90day ACCP. As far as stress, people, instructors, weather, nightlife/activities (If time premits), things of that nature. It seems that a good portion of the people in this forum either chose Dallas or plan to attend Dallas. The current locations I am looking at are SUA and JAX since I am on the east coast in NY. I am however currently unattached and have nothing holding me to a certain area so if you thought Dallas or PHX was a better location I'd like to know that as well.

I was just looking for maybe some advantages and disadvantages of each.

Thanks everyone for your time, I appreciate your help

Mike

How about Washington, DC halfway down the coast? It's actually at Manassas, VA KHEF. It's a cozy little place where not too many students are . . . should be able to get real good personal attention there. You should also get good experience with busy Class Bravo airspace and work in the ADIZ.

I believe the 60-day PPL portion is only conducted down at JAX. So you would definately be there for that. You could stay to finish the rest while you are there, or head back elsewhere.

Dallas is probably the most popular location outside of JAX.

I've only checked out their WAS location so I won't speculate about the places I haven't been to.

Hey windchill thanks for the info and the welcome. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As far as Washington I will be starting in probably Oct. or Nov. for my PPL and either Dec. or Jan. for my ACPP, taken that into consideration I think I may opt for the southern locations just based on weather alone.

Still researching locations though. Anyone else who may have any other or additional input would help, and be appreciated.

Thanks again windchill,

Mike

When I was touring at JAX, I talked to someone who was just finishing up the PPL - said he was going to head down to Stuart for the Career part. I think he said he just wanted to "check out the other locations" or something - I dont know if there was anymore to it than that. I think you might be able to make the career location decision after you are in the PPL. Jim told me that most people who do the PPL - just stay at JAX b/c they are set up in there apartmnts already and its just more convenient.

I dont know anything firsthand about the Dallas location, but I have heard a lot about it on JC, it could just be that a lot of guys from that location just happen to be online w/ this website...

I hear you about heading south for the winter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Ace High thanks for your input. Congratulations on your decision on ATP and good luck.

I was kinda hoping maybe this thread would help me figure out whether that was the case, or if the DAL location really was one the better of the locations to attend.

Thanks again.

If I didn't have this college thing to finish up I would have chosen a location based just on that: location. I like a change of scenery so I probably would have gone west.

The instructors at ATL seem to think we are the second busiest location.

It's both... lots of Dallas instructors and students AND one of the better locations!

Remember you'll only be at your base for 5-6 weeks, then you are on the road for XCs and possibly commercial checkride prep somewhere else. Then off to ATL or JAX for CFI training.
