Im a senior in high school and im really interested in flying. I got in Embry riddle, but really discourage by the price tag as a four years school. However i found out a community college that offer associate degree in aero sicence and im planing to attend that school n transfer to embry or whatever. Do you guys think thats a good idea or should i go straight to embry riddle??

Im also wondering how long will it take a person to get hired by regional airlines after the 4 yrs school of aviation science( assuming i spend another 2 yr as CFI)

Last question, The aviation industry seems very competitive, especially becoming a pilot, so is it easy to land with one of the major airlines( delta, united and etc )

I've been out of ERAU for 2 years and just got hired. 2 years is a good estimate, based on some other folks I know who graduated when I did. As for getting on at a major, that's 5 or 6 years after you make a regional, so don't worry about it yet, because no one knows how the job market will be at that time. As for community college or Riddle, it's up to you, but make sure your credits will transfer to Riddle before you jump into wherever else you're planning on going.

Also, consider NOT getting an aviation degree. Heaven forbid, but if you loose your medical or won't like the professional part of flying for the next 30 to 40 years. It is nice to have a marketable skill to fall back on besides flying. I will keep it short as there have been many previous posts on this subject. Good luck with which ever you decide.

No...it's never easy. Nothing in this business is easy. It's all suppy and demand. I think, for quite some time down the road, the best jobs in aviation are going to be extemeeeeely competitive.

I totally agree! I'm not sure about this cause I didn't get an aviation degree, but can't you use quite a bit of your flight hours for college credits? That would be a plus, but I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry. Take your time, study hard, and things will all work out.
