So they buy the planes(30 CRJ900) than do a RFP for someone to operate them, or let Comair fly them?

Bombardier Sells 30 CRJ900 Regional Jets to Delta Air Lines

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 8, 2007) - Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Atlanta, Georgia-based Delta Air Lines has placed a firm order for 30 Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets and has taken options on an additional 30 CRJ900 aircraft. The approval for this contract was granted by the United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York.

The contract value for the 30 firm ordered aircraft, based on CRJ900 aircraft list price, is approximately $1.1 billion US. If all options are exercised, the value of the contract could rise to $2.3 billion US.

"Delta Air Lines and its Delta Connection carriers have been Bombardier CRJ aircraft customers since 1989 and currently operate more than 350 CRJ Series aircraft," said Steven Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Regional Aircraft. "Delta has played a major role in the success of the CRJ program and we are grateful for their continuing confidence in our regional jet products."

"The acquisition of these aircraft will help Delta meet its network and operational needs for 2007 and 2008, allowing us to continue providing convenient service to the places where customers most want to travel," said Shawn Anderson, Delta's Vice-President of Delta Connection. "The fit with our fleet, timing of delivery and ownership economics made the Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft the best overall solution to meet our needs."

Bombardier CRJ705 and CRJ900 aircraft have now been ordered by, or are in service with operators which include, Air Canada Jazz, Air Nostrum, Air One, Arik Air, Atlasjet Airlines, Lufthansa CityLine, MAT Macedonian Airlines, Mesa Air Group, My Way Airlines, Northwest Airlines, SkyWest Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

Today's order announcement increases CRJ Series total firm orders to 1,515 aircraft. As of October 31, 2006, Bombardier had delivered 1,395 CRJ Series aircraft to customers around the world.

Yep, Delta buys em and retains ownership as leverage. For example, lower your cost or we'll yank our CRJ-900's and give em to Comair.

They did just that to Comair, giving their DL owned 700's to SKYW & ASA.

In fact, all of Pinnacles RJ's are owned by NWA, but operated by Pinnacle!

Yep. We're slaves to the Red Tail Master. We're reminded at least twice a montht that we need to sign this POS contract, or NWA is gonna start pulling a/c after 3/31/07. Good. Maybe the JMing and extensions on the CA side will stop.

As for the Delta stuff, no one knows who's getting those. Could be Comair. Could be Skywest/ASA. Could be.....Pinnacle.

Delta has already said that some (not all) of Comair's 700 I think 8 are going to ASA.

Ok I just didn't think the larger airlines owned the smaller RJ's. I just assumed that the smaller operators(ie:skyw, mesa, etc..) owned/leased them.

Not entirely.

Which is why you really don't want to plan a 30 year career at a subcontractor airline. Those planes can pretty much be shifted around the "portfolio" at will.

People hate these RJs. My friends in the business community that travel on these things always give me an earful. I got 3 different "RJ hate" stories this week alone. One guy told me he had 6 different flights last week....not one on a mainline airplane. He statement to me was these RJs are "everywhere". I said I know only too well.

Maxie those are 8 of the twelve originally taken. As of Feb 1, SkyWest has started flying lines out of CVG. I've already heard them call to ask if our line mx can come fix some stuff. ASA has their own contract mx, but still calls to see if we can fix stuff. We get an occassion call from Pinnacle as well. If line mx isn't busy we hook em up for reciprocal mx at one of the other airlines bases or outstaitions. We also do Heavy MX and mods for Air Canada Jazz.
