Headsets Inc....opinions?

Anybody heard of them? They make custom fit ANR inserts to go a long with a non-ANR headset. I was wondering if anyone knew if this company was legit or not...website here:

Instructing for long hours in the day is starting to get to me. :insane:

I'd like to have the comfort of an ANR headset. I currently use a DC 13.4. I love it but wish it had some kind of noise reduction.

I was thinking about taking the plunge for the new DC X-11, but if there are other suggestions out there I am all ears...

Try the telex stratus 50-d. I have used them all. Lightspeed's materials are slightly cheaper than the other companies and seem to get scratched up a lot. DC use better materials, but the round earcups are not egronomic for the head. The bose doesn't have good passive protection in case the batteries fail. I happen to have a telex for sale in the trading post:)

Yes, it's legit. The company has been around about as long as ANR and is well-known in the aviation community.

The reviews are generally positive, although I don't think anyone will say the results are the equal of the better off-the-shelf ANR headsets. You need to be somewhat handy in order to install the conversion yourself. That means comfortable with a soldering iron.

A student of mine has the conversion and he's been generally pleased.

I checked out a former US Airways CA and active CAF pilot who had that company modify his David Clarks with ANR. He swears by them--apparently their customer service is great, too.

As for me, I fly with the Lightspeed headets, and have been for about five years. My set was getting old and ratty--earseals all torn to pieces, one of the earpieces had actually fallen off, i could hear a slight "buzz" in one of my ears, etc (not to mention I lost the danged "mic muff"). I sent them to LightSPEED for repair, and to my astonishment, they replaced basically every single thing except for the earpieces themselves all for free. Can't beat that.

For real. I called Lightspeed the other day and said that my headband cusion was falling apart and asked what I had to do to order a new one. They took down my address and told me it'd be here in a few days, no charge.

I've put about 500 hours on my Lightspeed Twenty 3G's and I can't say enough good things about them!

I updated my DC knockoff AVCOMM's with them - You deffinitly WON"T regret it. Pay the extra $10 bucks or whatever for the new cable that carries power/mic/earphones rather than having 2 cords come out of your headset. I used my "upgraded" headsetsinc headset for almost 5 years before I upgraded to the Bose X for the comfort factor. In all honesty I think the headsetsinc ANR circuitry works just as well as any other out there, I think the bose filters out a slightly wider pitch range with more high pitches filtered but the bulk of the noise is the prop beat/ lower frequency noise which the headsetsinc kit kills very well. For that reason, with better passive noise reduction I feel that noise level wise the upgraded avcomm I have is about as quiet as my bose, its just a comfort thing. But your hearing is most important and you wouldn't be dissappointed. I recommend the headsetsinc kit to ANYONE. Its much more economical and easily just as effective as getting a new headset. Just my humble opinion!

I put the Headsets, Inc kit into a pair of DC13.4s. Especially since you already have the DCs, you're only out $200 for the ANR upgrade. I also added a set of the thinner Oregon Aero earseals and cloth covers to mine (got them for cheap on ebay), which I thought made it a lot less uncomfortable. Definitely get the upgrade cable like BZNflyer said. It took me maybe an hour to install the kit; I'm mechanically minded but not so good with electrics. One of the ANR modules went out when it was a few weeks over a year old, and they still replaced it for me under warranty with a very quick turnaround.
Later I made an impulse buy of the clarity aloft, which I figured I'd return during their 30day free trial, but i ended up liking them, so the DCs are now for dad, wife, son or whoever else is riding along with me.

Thanks for the info everybody. I went ahead and emailed the company with some questions and will probably continue with an order.

Would it be worth the $50 for the panel mounted power supply that they offer? I'm assuming that system wouldn't require the 9V battery to operate the ANR function?

Thanks again
