Headsets Inc. DIY ANR Upgrade

Anyone use this? I found a few good reviews, and went ahead and ordered it for my DC 10-13.4's. Total was about $200 with shipping, AMP cable, and auto-shutoff battery box. My DC's are out of warranty, and the cable connection is getting torn at the earcup, so I decided to just replace all of the internals with the ANR.

I inquired about this not so long ago. From what I have been told, you need to be able to solder, and read a electronics schematic. If you have that down, they are not a bad investment. If I had a pair of DC's I would have gone that route, but I had an uncomfortable pair of old Telex. I chose to go with the Lightspeed, and do not regret the choice. The are awesome. A guy that owns a couple of planes at my airport did the conversion, and he swears by it. He says they are every bit as good as the Lightspeeds as far as ANR is concerned. Hope that helps.

I sent my david clarks to them about a week and a half ago. They are now on their way back to me, should be here tomorrow or saturday. I had them do the install for 50 bucks or so, which they also give you a 3 year warranty for doing. I felt way more comfortable with them doing the install, seeing as they probably do it quite often.

Ill post a reply when I try them out, they were the 13.4's, bout a year old.

I solder electronics all the time, so the install for me won't be a big deal. Let me know how yours work waverebel. What options did you have installed with it?

Got it today! It got delayed a week because they were out of stock for the low profile ones that fit the 13.4's. I just tested them with the airplane avionics, and everything seems to work, so I guess I didn't screw up the wiring. I will post about the performance tomorrow after a full day of instructing.

The install wasn't bad. Match wire to wire, solder together. No small solder points, so even a novice could do it.

I have had them for about a week and they are awesome. It took me a while to get used to the different noise on takeoff. They work really well. I don't have any other ANR to compare them to, but they have significantly cut down the noise.

I don't know how I missed this. I had a set of Peltors that I realy liked and had the upgrade done. I was very happy with them. I've since moved on to a new Telex set, but my wife uses the modified Peltors and thinks they are great.

Any more opinions on the headsets inc upgrade? I've got a pair of 10 year old 13.4s, but I think it's probably time to upgrade to ANR since I'll be full time flight instructing, then getting into an ERJ. I was going to ship them off for the $50 install also (I've never touched a soldering gun/tool/what? in my life).

*edit* did a search and found a few more threads with the info I was looking for :) Still more opinions are always good.
